attaching overflow box

Keep in mind that you also need to drill the tank. Not really something you want to do with it full. You also need to get the revised overflow tested & working right. You need temporary containers for all the livestock, LR & sand.
With the tank empty, clean it up & do the drilling & silicon. Test everything is working correctly, then move everything back. Big project but it's actually kind of fun to redo the aquascape & get everything cleaned up.

this is definitely something you want to "rush" to get it done. Take your time, do it right, and you'll be glad you did!

Best way to do it is drain in, drill it, glue it.
Trying to do it full could result in some catastrophic results. I personally wouldn't recommend it or risk it. As much of pain in the butt it may be it's worth the extra time, patience, and trouble

+1 and don't use super glue it will not hold long term you need to use aquarium safe silicone

please please please make sure it is labeled for aquarium use! I can't stress enough how important this is!

sorry i didnt clarify. the tank is already drilled, here is a pic. im going to use the box over only my full siphone hole, the emergency one will not be in the box. i got the tube of silicone from lowes, it says aquarium safe so i assume its alright?
one of the reasons i dont want to drain the tank is that the GSP are spreading so nicely on the back wall.

I am so leery about silicone from lowes or HD. I used one from HD thinking it was aquarium safe and it nuked my whole tank. I'm not very familiar with what is safe and what isn't tho.

You can use weather stripping (rubber kind with a groove) and a zip tie to hold it to the drain. The tank water pressure will do the rest.

You put an elbow in the bulkhead and two little holes in the overflow box at positions that would let zip it in the right place. Water pressure does the rest. You need the weather stripping though.
