Attaching swivel arm

Is there some trick to attaching the swivel arm? I am trying to attach the pump to the magnet holder, but the swivel arm does not want to go into the pump, and I am afraid if I force it the swivel arm will just break. Any suggestions?

You take the cover screen off the pump and slide the arm into the groove.
