Attemping an Achilles tang

Although chaotic/turbulent flow is great, and very helpful in keeping this fish, I think that you would be more likely to be successful if you just had more flow of any kind. I think it's instructive that Untamed's achilles' hangs out right in front of a 1" output hooked up to a Dart pump. Maybe think about throwing a Vortech up on the side of the tank and just cranking it full blast (or a Tunze stream, or a wavebox, etc.)? Some of your softies might not be too crazy about that, but my sense is that you care about the achilles more than keeping a few soft corals happy.

Achillies tangs are no more sensative than a powder blue tang. IME all tangs are susceptible to ich due to their scale pattern and their slime coat. They are also very hard to get to eat.

IF you get the achillies any QT will be fine for him. THe 29g QT will suffice for QT for the 4-6 weeks you have him in there.

I would HIGHLY suggest that you get him acclimated into the 29g and then start hypo on the tank to ensure that he does not carry any ich parasites on him. The common thought and misconseption is that ich appears out of no where from stress. Not true.

Ich is a parasite that is passed on through the shipping process. Yes it does exist in the ocean, but because of the natural filtration and the overall health of the fish, the ich does not have the ability to spawn. However, in home aquaria due to the close quarters of our tanks (no matter how big) ich is able to breed like wild. THerefore, as long as you do not introduce it to your system your fish will NEVER get ich no matter how susceptible they are.

Good luck with him. They are amazing fish

As for the flow question, if you see them swimming freely in Hawaii, they stay near the break where it is super rough. The areas that I found them in the most were where the waves were crashing on the rocks so it is normal for them to want to hang out where all the flow is.
