Attempt at Raising Peppermint Shrimp (Lysmata wurdemanni)

But I understand ALL Lysmata show the famous 5th pair at the 4th zoea?.
I further suspect all peppers show the same stages, except for the temperate L.seticaudata that is said to have fewer.
I would like to see a pic of a Z1,as all pepper Z1 seen so far(by me) show identical pattern.

Hi Gary

L. vittata and for that mater all the Lysmata that I have bred take approx 14 day for the eggs to hatch. Once the eggs turn from green to a light brown you will know the they are only a day or so away from hatching.

And hatching normally occurs an hour or so after lights out, so the best way of collecting the larva is to use a larva trap. I designed mine (and it works a treat) around April Kirkendolls design from her book "How to raise and train your Peppermint shrimp". I would highly reccomend this book.

You will get much better larva survial if you feed the parents a very high quality diet and I normally feed my brood stock at least 3 times a day.

good luck with your attempt please let us know how you go.
