"ATTENTION" notice in 9410 Box...

Roger, my 9410 came with a notice that says "Use Hot Water to Thoroughly Rinse the filter prior to use." Are they referring to the mesh filter bag, or the entire skimmer body?

That's referring to the mesh filter bag.

Though unnecessary, rinsing the entire unit can help it break in a little quicker.

Just to explain the reasoning, the manufacturing of filter flosses/bags leaves a residue of phenol, while not toxic in the very low dose present, it is a surfactant and will cause the skimmer to foam over and basically "go crazy" for a few days, a hot water rinse avoids this by rinsing off the trace of phenols.

Thanks guys! Appreciate the response. It never hurts to be safe (rather than sorry!).

This is a really slick design. Running for just a few minutes, but I like it the form and function much better than my 9010 (which performed superbly for my tank).
