attn: all PICASSO clown owners

from an email from vince from ora:

1. when ora's picasso pair lay eggs, only 1% of the hatched clowns are picasso.

2. they sell out fast :)

he said he'll try to get me some pics soon hopefully.

embryoguy ... I dont think we are reading the same posts here?!?!?! I'm completely confused.

All I ask is if you were saying the original parents were straite onyx...not having all that white. Then you post a pic of yours...yes yours are onyx...100% the wc and rods... I love that pair... I've read all the posts on them.

Then you post a pic of the original WC male of ORA's pair... I would fly anywhere for him as well...he is unreal... Are you saying hes an onyx? Thats all I wanna know...

Ok ok... I see where your comming from :)

I agree its the best clown in the world ... I'd give anything in my tank for that fish or one that looks just like it! Or... I'd do anything for him. I LOVE the eye patch and the white dorsal!
I still stick with my belief though that he's not black enough for onyx... You do ...thats cool too :)

Ok....MORE PICS! how about some updated ones of your picasso offspring?

to be honest, the best looking clown i think is this one. its one of the parent of the ORA picassos. its the original snowflake. i think it looks unreal. i d fly across the country just to see it :)

Lets not get this even more muddy by calling this fish a "snowflake".

First the "snowflake" is a A. ocellaris variant that come from two normally barred A. ocellaris parents that where likely owned by a hobbyist in France before being bought by a large hatchery in the UK.

This fish is NOT a "snowflake", it is a picasso variant of A. percula.

jov. yeah i agree its just a matter of opinion. :)

i only have 2 picassos left now. i gave three away and 1 died.

but ill take updated pics asap. i was trying to make more room for the new onyx i got in, but im trying to bring more picassos bec i think they have a very good probability to dev. alot of black in the body region. and in my opinion, onyx :) which i like :) when i first got the picassos, i did not realize there full potential and at the time, did not value them as much as i do now.

again its just a matter of pref. what you like :)

JHartman, im just calling it what the original owner called it. by reputation its know as the snowflake. and thats what ill continue to refer it to as. im sure you are correct in its origin.

when i refer to this particular clownfish, im not refering it to the standard snowflake thats in the market now by the group in england. this clownfish was named snowflake by aquadesigns for whatever reason.

if someone wants to call it a picasso , than thats fine for them. i consider it the orginal snowflake. and i KNOW it does not have the same genetics as the common snowflake coming from england. i KNOW the common snowflake has osc. bloodline. and i KNOW the picasso has a perc bloodline.

Are you going to pair your picasso's with rods onyx or other picasso's? I cant waite to see all the different varients you have floating around in a few years when all these juvi's start breeding!

when we talk a variant of a species are you saying the clown is only from the wild and reproduced like that with a different species or was captive breed and turned out like that by mating two different types of clown species?? getting really confused.wouldn't these be called hybrid clowns????
help jhardman!! or somebody!!

please read up, Jhartman has explained this.

thank you vtboy for your pic. it enriched my thoughts of the picasso.

Here's a crappy pic of the Picasso I purchased yesterday. It doesn't have any black in between the bars exept a faint online around the white.

i think we think alike lol , im hoping to do the same thing also. if you can please take another upclose pic. our picassos are very young. you prob still can see the spine.

i just acquired another picasso that i will take a pic later tonight. after talking to ora i think there is a really good prob. they will attain more black on the body as they reach sexual maturity. lets cross our fingers. :)

embryoguy, are you having them ordered for you, or you get them by luck? There is only one shop here in the So Cal area that is carrying clownfish from ORA, except they are an hour and a half drive away from me. We are doing the same thing, hopefully in a year I can have some offspring and we can trade them. What's cool about them is that they are all juveniles and how they interact with each other. Right now I have the three naked clowns and the percula together I thought there would be some type of agression, but haven't had any problems so far. Will you only pair them off WC X TB, TB XTB, or will you also mix species of TB?

I concur with that statement.

i just acquired another picasso from ora. what i find most interesting about the clownfish below is appearnce of the dev. of a white dorsal fin. :)

my first sign of a picasso with a trait similar to its parent
picasso. :)

note the front tip of the dorsal fine. i think this will dev. a very strong WHITE coloration as it matures.

other side, again note the appearance of the dev. of the a white dorsal.
