Since a bunch of us will be ordering these things I thought a info thread would be nice. As I have no idea how to keep these things.

Questions I have.....

1. Do these sit in my sand bottom or do I mount them somehow?

2. What light would be best on these?

3. What flow?

4. What do they eat?

I'm sure there are many more question out there.

I have mine on the sand bed in a lower flow area and they do well. I don't feed them directly, but I do dose the tank with ultra min s. Mine are under 250 reeflux 12k's.

I have asked this in the lps forum before and I got these answers

1. close to the bottom
2. T5s
3. low to medium
4. I have heard of people using misis, phyto, Marine snow, rods coral blend<----thats what I am going to be using my lps love it

Acans are LPS. Both LPS and SPS are stony corals. The SPS and LPS terms are only used in hobbyist circles, as they have no scientific definition. LPS stands for 'large polyed stony' and SPS for 'small polyed stony'. Though some of the corals we refer to as SPS have larger polyps than some of the LPS and vice-a-versa.

I've found that when I place my Acan up at the top in high flow in a frag rack, it grows faster. I don't know why, and it's color becomes brighter. That and recently after getting it back from Lonnie, if kept up in the frag rack, it will open up & eat during the day rather than @ night. But that's JME with the 1 I have.

acans like most corals have exceptions, some like more flow, some like more light and some like more "dirty water"

you just have to play around with it

Well other's on here have reported they prefer lower levels in the tank under low flow. I had mine there for about a year and it grew but at a snails pace. After placing it up in a frag rack under high flow ( about 10 inches away from a Sureflow maxi-jet 2100 gph ) it's grown double the size in about 3 months. I have T5's so I can't comment on the MH lighting.

That's what I was told and read as well. But my tank went south ( long story ) so I placed it in a friends tank and he had it in a frag rack up at the top under high flow and it took off, so when I got it back I tried to repliecate the same thing.
