Aussie Harlequin Tuskfish

So I have been eying this fish in the Diver's Den for some time and I was planning to purchase in the next couple of months. I have noticed that the prices have been leaping a lot higher over the past six months going from 179 to 229 for a 6 inch. Is there a better time to purchase than others (seasonality) or is it the matter of testing price points for product and adjusting the price based on the demand. I have no complaint, it's capitalism and I love Divers Den; I just want to buy smart and 229 seems high.

Love to know your thoughts.

the way prices on divers den is going, the longer you wait the more you will pay. Just remeber you have the piece of mind to know that the guarantee you will get will be worth it, and the fish you get will be well adjusted and healthy. Besides, i personally dont feel 230 is so bad for a 6 inch aussie tusk. How much do you have to pay to get free shipping?

Kinda high to me but if he's a show piece with perfect coloration It would be a good buy. Normally a 5-6'' around here goes for $120-$170 depending on the store.

Awesome fish. I do agree that DD prices have been going up on everything and some fish are way more compared to my LFS's prices.

They are usually more plentiful in the summer; but it seems that LA/DD has them all year now. Watch the weekly sales at LA, they often have these guys at a great price and the LA variety is the same fish---without the pampering DD fish receive. My tusks are LA fish and magnificent. As much as I like DD; its hard to improve on the combination of LA and Australian fish. They will be great. (As will the 2012-2013 Packers.)

This sounds like the current price for a 6" Indo-pacific HT, not an Australian.

Ditto on watching LA for sales on the Australian Harlequin Tusk's. They've ran a few 30% off sales on these fish over the last few months, mostly on the large size. I picked up a large (received one about 8" in length) specimen on sale for $169.99 a month ago.

Have had both and the Australian once seen in person is something else as far as colour goes. The fish glows. Great fish and DD is expensive so tough call, they do have a rewards program now plus will refund you if fish doesn't make it etc. Either way you decide to go ....... Post pics :)

LA/DD has a great pic showing the differences between the two. IMO, Aussies are more robust too. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+1379+380&pcatid=380

I feel sorry for you guys, im lucky being an Aussie, I got my Harlequin for $85. Thats standard price over here. it took me a while to find him as i was after a perfect specimine in terms of colour, shape, fins... ect but i managed to find one around 6 months ago. Beautiful fish, definately one of my all time favourites.

I had been thinking about adding one for several months now and finally pulled the trigger. I just received it today (from DD) and it was almost dead when I opened the bag. It was upside down and barely breathing... the bag was the same size as the fish (6"). This is not normal for DD as they usually pack large fish with a bag thats at least twice the size of the fish. Ive already called LA and explained the situation. I must have got the new guy or they ran out of big bags.

Yeah i guess we pay a little more, but you tell me how much a queen angel goes for over there? We each get overpay in our own special way

You are correct, that is not normal service for DD. Rest assured however, if the fish does not make it, they'll refund or replace it.

They'll fix it and usually do pack better so hope fish makes it. I found the tusks to be real shy in the beginning and hide quite a bit.

I hope he makes it too because he is a gorgeous fish. Hes been in the same spot since yesterday... at least hes upright.
