Hey, how can you tell the difference between an Aussie Acan and a Japanese Acan???

Is it only by the skeletal structure?

You cant tell. In fact, there should not be any Japanese Acans in the hobby (or any other Japanese stony coral for that matter). Their export is not permitted.

There is no difference in skeletal structure between A. lordhowensis specimens, regardless of collection location. If there were differences- they wouldnt be the same species.

Just not anymore.

I saw some red rhizos from Japan(at least thats what i was told) while I was in LA this weekend beautiful but pricey

I have some non-indo (aka Japanese Lords) that I picked up about 2 years back and they are much more colorful then the indo and aussie one. From my experience, color is a big factor. The next thing I notice are the patterns on the polyps. Skeleton wise, its all the same. If you notice the surplus of Aussie that came in this past year, they are basically only about 20-30 so morphs different morphs if even that. Rhizos are a whole different story. The red rhizo sounds interested. Can you PM me that info Victor?

When was collection and export legalized?

So far from the sites I've seen the main diff. is color intensity and variety (unusual bright colors like yellow, pinks, etc) under any kind of light.

Just from what I've seen though

I am aware, and No it is not legalized yet... Nor will it probably ever be... But that doesnt stop people from collecting them or importing them either...

Where there is an illegal market, there are smugglers.. unfortunatly, but thats economics for you.

well said shawn. people will allways find away as long there is a market to make money. unfortunatly thats what makes the world go around. so ive heard.
