Australian SPS

Hey Andy,

That's a nice colony you got there man. So you don't have it anymore? I think color wise my piece and yours are the same. My pic is kind of saturated with blue from the 20k's. Do you remember the color of the polyps on your hoek?

i also wonder if there are any differences between the aussi hoeks and the indo hoeks. :D

James I ended up selling the colony a while ago and sadly they smoked the whole thing after a week..BUT I had cut off a frag before I sold it so I would have a branch for my self..presently its about three inches and based out..the polyps on this guy are purple. so you and I may have different variants..though yours sounds pretty cool!

I was at my local LFS and tried to convince them to sell me a whole colony but they were only fragging. So got this little guy from there "aussie" shipment. The whole colony was amazing but was mostly bleached out. its starting to get some good color

Wowsers. If you think about it though $300 is not that much considering the initial frags of this ran you $150. Plus I see three stalks...the ones with two stalks were going to $200.

This one is pretty sweet too:

Yeah James, you got a point. I just wish my bank account would allow for it.

That thing is nice but I wonder how much of the color detail you'll see looking into the tank from a few feet away...

Dang, that is nice! What lighting are you using? I would think 400w 20K metal halides would get the color back. Also, water quality plays a big role in coloration.

Rickyrooz1, I am using 400w radiums and VHO actinics.
Water quality does play a big role in color, hope I can further reduce my PO4 down to 0.02. It's currently at 0.08.

Hey me and my mate live in Australia. Were 17 atm but we love sps and the hobby so much. We want to start the biggest propagation operation within Australia (HOPEFULLY 1 DAY LOLL) and I just wanted to ask any one how shipping works from Australia to you guys in US. Is there a special steps which are followed and what about quarantine and regulations for imported corals. Any one know an answere would be deeply appreciated and hopefully one day me and my mate can supply all of you with rare Australian sps for cheap prices.

I think once we all get our aussie pieces we should trade. So everyone got a frag just in case the mother colony dies. :D

I think that's a fantastic idea since I've been through a full tank crash before. I've learned my lesson. Trades always welcome.

I understand that you and your mate are at an age where you're prone to have wet dreams, and this is one of them..

However I will indulge your fantasies.

- As the exporter you will need an export permit from the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts, issued under the "Environment Protection and Biodiversity Act 1999 (EPBC Act)".
- You will need a "Fisheries Aquaculture permit" for your state, for the production of an aquacultured species on a commercial basis.
Neither of the above come cheap.
- You will need to submit an "Application for assessment as a recognised zoological organisation for the import and export of wildlife to and from Australia".
- You will need your business to be added to the "Approved Aquaculture Program list for export". Currently only 2 marine propogation facilities are on this list.

Your US counterpart will need a CITES import permit covering the relevant species that you wish to aquire, and quarantine facilities for their arrival.

It's not as easy as setting up a tank down the back full of coral and chucking them in a box marked USA with a couple of stamps.

I was concerned that this would break in shipping but Divers Den knows how to pack their corals for a safe arrival :D
