Australian SPS

This one is nice for only $89.99. They say its a prostrata, looks like a milli to me though?

I understand that you and your mate are at an age where you're prone to have wet dreams, and this is one of them..

However I will indulge your fantasies.

- As the exporter you will need an export permit from the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts, issued under the "Environment Protection and Biodiversity Act 1999 (EPBC Act)".
- You will need a "Fisheries Aquaculture permit" for your state, for the production of an aquacultured species on a commercial basis.
Neither of the above come cheap.
- You will need to submit an "Application for assessment as a recognised zoological organisation for the import and export of wildlife to and from Australia".
- You will need your business to be added to the "Approved Aquaculture Program list for export". Currently only 2 marine propogation facilities are on this list.

Your US counterpart will need a CITES import permit covering the relevant species that you wish to aquire, and quarantine facilities for their arrival.

It's not as easy as setting up a tank down the back full of coral and chucking them in a box marked USA with a couple of stamps.

LOLL wow that does make things much more difficult then thought but ill do my research and my dream is to start off small but I must admit the sps that iv'e seen at my LFS where I use to work were pretty indecent but never the less I loved them. I'm planning to supply the LFS as a producer of these frags and try and supply to the general public of Australia for a much cheaper and much better quality frag. But it will still be difficult none the less and hopefully my dream will turn into a reality for my friend and I and one day maybe if it worked out we would sell to all you in America for a cheap price instead of getting ripped off. Cheers for the help mate.

Ed, when is the last time you've seen large a. echinata offered to the hobby?

Some look common but others are much different from anything Ive seen offered in a long while... Especially in more than a 1" frag...

Those Echinatas were coming in on a consistant basis about a year or two ago when they first hit the hobby........As far as the rest, Reefermaddness, Reef Science, ect. had those corals on a daily basis & before them Dr. Mac carried them. Now it's DD & the only difference is that they are from Aust. They are the same corals that always came in.

My friend just bought that light blue hok for $60 at Phishy Business in Sept. & it had no brown in the skin, the whole piece was blue including the polyps. I have 3 frags of that hok now & I've had the coral for 3 years..........got it in a local trade.

Someone was over Saturday & asked what My Hoek was...........I said, it's just a blue stag.

They are nice pieces but not unusual & no reason to pay a premium for them.

I don't think 100-150 would be considered a premium for an exceptional colony considering we are so used to paying $50+ a frag for certain pieces.

This stuff is wayy nicer than anything coming in from Fiji or Bali and only a hair more expensive.

It's been years now since RM has offered nice sps corals and there really hasn't been anything too exciting since...

I could care less that this stuff is 'Aussie' Im just glad to be excited about some new sps coming in. Ive been bored looking at all the same designer frags going around for the last few years...

$150 plus shipping is almost $200. That's steep to me, but it's basically the same price when others had these pieces, so you're right in that respect.

My only point is the pieces are nothing new.........they seem new because the vendors have focused on those designer frags over the last year or so. No one wanted the common name mini colonies.....now because it's Aussie, suddenly they are in fashion again.........hype as I said earlier.

If you're into them that's great, I'm just stating my opinion.

Aside from the hoek there are some pretty nice new Aussie pieces that I have not seen before. Pieces that are diff in color combination at least. And at least for me, someone that has been wanting a whole hoek colony, the pieces that are coming in are just awsome. Not only are they wild colonies, they are (hopefully) maintaining their colors!

Btw what do you guys think of this piece. It was listed as a mille but the branches are extremely thick and oval shaped. I have not seen any milles like this. Could this be some type of prostrata or abro?

Yes I got lucky it wasn't sold, so picked it up. I know of the willis milli, but that piece has a nice bright blue tip doesn't it? This one doesn't seem to have it, at least not yet. :D

But yeah the branches seem to be too thick to be milles. It looks thinner in the pic that I provided but in real life the branches are quite wide.

Just need to clarify. The Willie Millie is red coralites (not pink), blue tip, and bright green rim at the base.

That's a cool piece James! I dig the thick branching structure on that coral. Post a pic when you receive it.
