AuThoRitY's 90g Build Thread!

Vapour1ze

I'm an Addict.
Welcome! First off, I would love some help along the way as I am still pretty new, only got about a year of experience under my belt which is no where nnnnnear enough, however, got a fairly good deal on the tank, stand, pump, and sump,,,, got everything for very good deal I think, now my parents say I can put it in the living room, and I want to do something fairly inexpensive, no crazy corals, thats what my 29 is for, for this I will be doing mainly a fish only, with some sweet looking rock, probably not LR, but something sweet looking, I want to do the following stock if possible,,,

-Snowflake
-Some sort of puffer, Porcupine or Dogface maybe?
-Some kind of tang
-Some kind of angel
-Clowns, (maroon if possible?)

any others of course, just not sure yet,

Please give me input etc and what you all think,

As far as my whole tank plan, I plan on getting the tank drilled early this week, 2 holes, not sure on SIZE ??? I also need someones input on an overflow box to use,,, as my tank is not rr yet, Also I plan on buying the same kind of skimmer I used on my 29, the aqua medic turboflotor 1000, The pictures below, I'm not sure how to run this sump, the guy gave it to me but I'm not really positive on whether to run bio balls or what?

Another thing, once drilled, depending on hole size and what not, I put whichever hole inside the overflow box correct? then attach pvc to the top of the sump to flow in, and then for the return bulkhead, do I run one of those long nozzle things that are in,

I'm obviously forgetting a lot this is going to be a long thread, and I hope some people tag along with me, heres some pictures, and one last thing is substrate, OPINIONS PLEASE!!! Kind mainly in my 29g, I went carib sea live 40lbs, and liked it, however there were some very large pieces in the sand,,,, I Would like possibly a little more fine, ok ok enough talking heres some pics of what I've got so far, I also believe my mom will be restaining the stand possibly.....

i am doing TWO 1 inch holes in my tank for the overflow....in the one of the corners and i am having an overflow box made but you can order them online....also a snowflake eel would be sweet i have one and its about 2 feet now and i hand feed it. i will post some pictures of my drain pipes and all to give you an idea...and i would not use bio balls, maybe some live rock rumble if you want something down there. and move that fax machine lol salt and that will not be good. can't wait for more following this of course!

lol yea, that was my first thing on the list. LOSE THE FAX MACHINE,,, hahaha, yea maybe some live rock rubble, the guy gave me the sump can't really fit a skimmer in there i dont think,,, not sure what to do.... please post your plumbing once you get a plan, I need to find a overflow box.

***UPDATE - This is actually going to be an in-wall build now, hopefully we will start cutting wednesday night, :) I'll keep posted with pics, tank is getting drilled tomorrow, Stay posted.

thanks, stay posted, demolition is going to be the best part, I hope getting the tank flush with the drywall goes good, it works out better having it in wall because the basements finished, however the tank is going into the unfinished part, where I can have it tie in with a floor drain, plus have my ro/di tied into the waterline which is about 10 feet from where the tank will be =] its gonna be sweet if everything works,

Update so far, today got the tank drilled, 1 1/2 inch both top left and top right one for drain, one for return, bulkheads are in, and the strainer will most likely be used for the overflow, but angled up more to the top so the water level actually stays to the top of the tank, and as for the return, i will be buying one of those 400% flow things off of marine depot,

Also bought 160g, Reef Crystals Salt Mix
80lbs, Caribbean Live Sand

Heres some pics,

Paint I'm using for the back of the tank, figured primer would stick better than paint. =/ Hope it works,

S5000387.jpg

This is the silicone I bought to seal the bulkheads, and possibly for an overflow box if I don't do the strainer idea.

Tape for the paint job (should be done tomorrow)

This is the strainer I bought, I will probably have some sort of sweep elbow to get it up higher,

Over the top view of the tank

S5000392.jpg

This is the wall the tank is going into,,, the bottom of the tank will be about 3ft up from the carpet.

S5000393.jpg

This is behind that wall :) (have some cleaning to do, but note: the floor drain I can run everything out that drain :) )

This is where I can tie my RO/DI unit into, and whatever other what source needs I have.

same here i love setting it all up this is my 2nd tank and i know a lot more now so this should be fun, now that im actually going to do it right :)

Well I see you got your tank:D You have it drilled already, looks great. Do you know what type of lights you're going to use? I'll be tagging along:beer:

thanks guys, tang as far as lights to be honest, I have NO NO NO idea yet, I've been looking at everything, mainly right now I'm just trying to get it in the wall, trimmed out get it plumbed and get water in the thing,

making sure everything is going to run smooth, im supposed to start drilling tonite with dad, so ill keep posted.

That's funny:lol: Same here I have to get my room done first before I can add water. I went to my LFS to pick up a 30 gal tank for my sump, out of stock:(
