Auto body paint recommendations?

I know there are places like Maaco out there that seem to specialize in full body paintings but does anyone know of any local less corporate places? I'm looking to get quotes for getting my mustang repainted. That factory paint just ain't what it used to be and I'd like to restore it to the default color it was... sans chipping paint. :) Thanks!

Thanks guys once I get through hellweek I'll check out the car stuff!

Secretly I almost want to paint my car that strange two tone color that changes depending on how you look at it but I think I'll wait until I get a new car for that. I love the old classic jobs on the cars down at old town. If I ever win the lotto I'm going shopping down there on a saturday night :)

There's a local place here in Kissimmee that my Explorer is getting some insurance work done right now:mad:. He gave me a quote of 1,200 to take out all the accumulated door dings, and bullet hole:rolleyes:, and repaint and clear coat it. I don't know if that's good or bad, but it sounds reasonable to me.

I don't know any shops in the area, but i've been dealing with classic show cars for years. If you want a quality paint job, find a shop that uses PPG paint products, and has a bake stall. If you really want a paint job that stands out, pay to have it color sanded after the painting. It can cost a few bucks to have them color sanded, but it's worth double the money. That's what gives a show car that mile deep shine. PPG makes excellent paint, and will stand behind thier paint for the life of the car. They repainted my entire car after 7 years due to a crack in the hood that was so small it looked like a small piece of hair. I didn't even complain about it. A PPG rep was looking at my car at a show and noticed it. He had it in a paint booth in less than 2 weeks and it didn't cost me a dime. Since it was a custom mix pearl paint, they repainted the entire car including a fresh color sand. The original job cost me $4800 for the paint and $1500 for the color sand. Mine was high because i changed the color, and had the fenders and doors painted inside also. Changing the color will cost about $2000 right up front.

DJ, i would ask for some references from that shop. Decent car paint costs around $700 and up for what you need to paint a full car. That is just decent paint. That means he's either using some cheap paint that will fall off in a year, or charging almost nothing for labor, and i doubt that's the case. You ain't worked till you've done some body work, and a ding is just as much work as a big dent. A fair price for a good same color clearcoat job is about $2500 considering average parking lot dings. You will get what you pay for either way.

I second that!!!

just to help you out chrisstie...you remember my truck...and if you don't look at the avatar. that was $2,200 worth of paint. of course I had metal flake, pearl, and custom colors, but yea. everything was ppg paint. I had a place quote my paintjob at over $10 g's. thank god I know how to paint! lol. My friend had his car painted not too far from where you live. goldenrod and semoron. it was behind the race store(any racers know the name?) ahh just came to me...titan motorsports. Just make sure the car is fully wetsanded, primered, like 3 coats of paint(think I painted like 5), and like 3 coats of clear(think I painted like 9 or 10 lol). have them show pictures of their work. and make sure theres somewhat of a warranty.

but all in all. I would say if you truly are planning on a new car...deal with the paint as-is and put that money in the bank toward the down payment of your new car! I finally bought a nice car and don't know how I used to survive! lol!

When I graduate and am working I'll be able to afford new but my mustang is a 99 35th anniversary edition and just has some fond memories so its definitely one I want to hang onto for a long long time..

Really appreciate the time you guys are spending with me on this. After talking to a Maaco this is the type of details I was hoping for. They're using sherman williams (the connotation for me is house paint. seems off for a car) paint and can do it cheapish if I keep the same color I think I was quoted roughly 700-1000 depending on the condition of the car. The car has had hail damage and what not but it was fixed so its in really good condition barely any imperfections at all.

I am nearly certain I want to stay original with the features of this car but I still have to think on it. Too many things going on at school! At least my senior project gets debuted tomorrow at 9am and I will have a lot more free time after finals week to investigate all of these places.

Thanks all again so much sounds like now I know what to look for in paint and method

If you really do plan on going with Maaco (I wouldn't), I would plan on at least masking the car yourself beforehand. I've heard horror stories about their mask jobs.

I spent about 1k painting an old integra of mine, from a decent bodyshop that a friend of a friend's dad owned. And let me tell you, I hated that paint job! As others have said expect to spend at least 2k to get a decent one.

Good info to know everyone. I know they use PPG paint at this shop and it is a reputable shop. I'll have to delve a bit deeper in to what I get for $1,200. I'll also ask for PPG as I plan on keeping this truck till I can no longer afford to keep gas in it or it explodes.

i paint cars for a living and have been doing custom mag. quality jobs for ever and a realy good paint job with no color change is gonna be around 1000 to 1500 depending on damage. cheaper than that i would worry about quality of matterials going on your car. custom stuff like the cameleon paint you were talking about my cost is 150 a pint for just the paint. whan your ready call me well talk. if i cant help you i can sure help with finding a place that can

Thanks again. I'm sitting here in the senior design lab the night before our presentation at 9am tomorrow.. Will worry about the paint job after I pass but I am so glad to hear of more local places I was dreading using something like maaco woohoo for good suggestions!

I want to get my mazda done. Was started into bodywork and primered. Got about 90% ready for paint and then bought a house, and a truck (that broke down). When I get the truck working and can get back to the mazda to finish it out I will be needing someone to shoot it. Will have to get back to yall in a few months about the recommended places.
