Auto Saltwater Change Question

I am setting up a 15 gallon drum that will hold saltwater.

My Apex along with a few pumps will automatically drain and refill approx 1 gallon per day.


My question is the storage of the saltwater. It will be premixed before I put it in the 15 gallon drum (which will last about 2 weeks in the drum).

Will I need to have a powerhead of some sort in the drum to keep the saltwater moving? If so do you have any recommendations?


I will also have a 15 gallon tank of RODI water for ATO. I'm thinking this does not need a powerhead right?

Not needed x2.

If you were going to change out a significant amount of water then I'd say yes and it would need aeration and possibly heating.

I guess I was worried about the NSW going stagnant..

I do circulate mine with a Mag12 - but in a large brute trashcan. Scientifically, I can offer no reason but I feel it keeps the water From settling. It also does the mixing for me.

The mag12 is a spare I keep on hand in case my main pump dies.
