auto shut off for ro/di

I currently have a power head in a trashcan conncected to an autotop off unit. I'd like to get rid of the trashcan and just have the autotop off connected to an autoshutoff valve (selonoid) on the water line of my ro/di unit. Does anyone know where or if I can buy such a thing localy? If I can do this should it be done at the incoming side of the ro/di unit or the ouput side? Thanks for any input

They go on the output. Some float valves have this function as well. Warning though, sometimes they stick and wipe out a tank. If I were going to do this, I think I'd try to have a double safety on it such as the float valve stopping it, then just a little higher up have a dual float switch that turns the selenoid off. The second float switch as a 3rd level of safety.

ive got this exact modle autotop off that is listed on the main page http://autotopoff.com/ it does have redundant float valves just incase one sticks.

So i will put a solenoid on the output of the ro/di. now just need to find one. Anyone have any thoughts?

I have read that you do not want constant water pressure on the RO unit because it is not good for the membrane. Control the water on the input side of the RO unit.

Just make sure they are all pvc or plastic. Some have copper internal parts.

One problem not mentioned above is that if you set you your system as you describe above, you'll have an issue with tds creep. Its best not to run a RO/SI system straight to a float valve.

Russ, I just ordered BFS-174 from you. What would I use that for? I was planning on installing it in a 55 gal plastic drum so that I had a good supply of ro/di available since I go through 1.5-2 containers a week. I have a seperate 55 that I will pump it into for my weekly water change and another I have to pump into 1X every 9-10 days for kalk.

See if you can set up a routine where you run the system more than once a week, but not so often like you would with a top off system.
