Auto shutoff valve RODI

I have been debating whether to install one on my RODI, have it but haven't installed it.

Yesterday I was making RODI water and forgot about it.
I have a float valve installed in the RODI container, naturally it filled up and float valve stopped overflow.

I heard a dripping sound and the output tubing actually popped out of the RODI unit.

Question:
Even if I had installed an Auto shutoff Valve, it still won't shut off the supply to my RODI unit so instead of the output line popping off due to pressure, other parts of the unit will start to leak or burst due to 80-100PSI pressure right?

John Guest Push fittings work best. Make sure they are seated all the way in.
ASO will keep pressure in the unit and RO tubing can take the pressure.

There's only 50-70 PSI going into the unit. I installed the auto shutoff valve when I forgot the check my water and it overflowed everything. After that, I installed it and I can leave the system running for weeks (with the shutoff valve closed) without issue.

When I worked maintenance we left them on all the time.
This way when we returned next month we had water to use.
As long as pressure is not above 100 PSI you are good to go.
Just make sure the connections are good.

The ASV is worth having even if you manually control the water source. That way if you forget or want to let it run until the float valve is activated, you don't end up continuing to waste water. You also aren't then putting continuous pressure on the float valve. The float valve's purpose should only be to create enough back pressure to cause the ASV to activate.

I put a ASV on my step finally a few months ago. I couldn't ever get it to work right then realized I needed a check valve to go with it. So now My setup is perfect. I still shut my water off, but in the event I forget I am basically assured I am safe. anything can fail, so I wouldnt recommend relying on it 100%. But it is a great failsafe.

A DR/backup failsafe can be this (this way if your ASV fails your set):

Just as an FYI, if your PSI is too low, the ASV won't shut off. This can be an issue for people on well water, but I believe most people on city water are fine.

Can you use an ASV while using a booster pump? Is there a way to shut off the pump too?

if you have an apex, you could put a float switch in your RODI container and when the float is triggered cut power to the booster pump. You could also get a solenoid valve from autotopoff.com and run it off the same float switch to close the solenoid and act as an ASV when the float rises. this way water pressure is never an issue for those with low water pressure.

Thank you very much. I do indeed have the new Apex that came out this year. So I assume I use the breakout box for this? I do have one and I have 6 float switches from digital aquatics (I heard they are some of the best). Are there any videos to show me how to hook this up? Very visual learner!

Yes, you need a pressure switch.. which is this: http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/aquatec-8800-psw-pressure-switch-1-4-push-connect.html

I got mine with their booster pump kit. Its suppose to turn off the pump when the ASV triggers. There's an installation video on BRS which explains how it works.. Looks easy to install.

I have the vertex. I'll have to see how I can wire it in!

Well heck. I did some reading. I have one built into the unit. Wow I feel like an idiot! I have just filled up the tanks and then shut it off, I have never had it connected to float valve. I will soon in my sump.

You can, but you are better off using a pressure switch and an electric solenoid valve instead. These items plug into the same circuit that runs the pump, if you work with the right vendor.
