auto top off/space limitation

In order to do this, do you need to have a trash can (or something else holding water) full of water right next to the tank somewhere? My tank is downstairs in my living room where I have no extra room to put extra water. My system now is to make my water upstairs in my bathroom and carry it down by 5 gallon bucket to add to the tank. I have to maintain water levels every day because of evaporation. Thanks for any help/suggestions!

I had the same problem and my better half had a problem w/ a water jug in the living room 3-4times a week. I had to come up w/ a way to disquiss it amongst the furniture. I use a five gallon bucket w/ ro water in it next to the tank in a laudry hamper i got at Ross. I use the Tunze osmolator to cntrl top off.

so with that, you still have to fill the 5 gallon jug every couple days?

I have the float valve piped right to my sump. Some people don't think it is a good idea, but I haven't had on problem with it yet and it's been in for well over a year.

If you have an R/O system, try running a line directly to a Kent Float Valve in your sump. I had mine that way for over a year without failure.

i do have an RO/DI system....i have the typhoon III from www.airwaterice.com

I have the same problem. I just have gallon jugs in the pantry full of RO/DI water. I use the Typhoon as well. For now it works ok. I have glass tops on my tank and that limits the evaporation. I am currently putting in about 3/4 of a gallon per day. I keep 6 gallons in the pantry and fill them up once per week or so.

So far I have been able to keep my temp steady.

The telling time for me will be when I decide to dose Kalkwasser. Then I will have to find a way to keep a 5 gallon jug nearby so I can dose at night.

I fill the 5 gallon bucket once sometimes twice aweek, I usually add Kalk to the water as well. U could use a larger reservor but in the event that the pump stayed on or.. you would not drastically change ur salinity in the tank. As for linking ur tank to a large trashcan i dont recomend it. You could locate you top off reservor in another room just as long as it is not above the tank level. Or you will create a vacume.
