Auto water changes

Hey everyone! So I am wondering if anyone has some suggestions or experience with using a dosing pump to do auto water changes??? My only issue is I have an all-in-one system. Therefore I would use a hygger-4head dosing pump mounted in the cabinet below, one to draw water out of the tank into a waste container while simultaneously adding replacement/clean saltwater in a separate location in rear of tank….I am fairly certain that there is a enough head pressure to get the job done but my concern is that it may potentially back siphon the water I’m drawing out of tank seeing that; the tube would have to actually be below the water level and the dosing pump would be mounted below the tank…..any thoughts or constructive suggestions?

I don't have any personal experience with automatic water changes but, I have heard of many people doing so. Hopefully, someone with the proper knowledge/experience will chime in soon.

Thank you for reading and replying at least….Hopefully this post doesn’t get lost in the archives and go unanswered. Lol

I have done them with 2 normal pumps because I changed 7 gallons a day. This function is built into Hydros.

Dosing pumps in good working order will not siphon in either direction. If they did all my chemicals would go into the sump because they are up on a shelf over it.

I personally have not done auto water changes, however my understanding is the same as @wvned

A proper dosing pump shouldn’t siphon in either direction without the pump running. That said, whether or not this works depends on the dosing pump and the amount of water you want to change. It looks like the Hygger maxes out at 9999 ml per day or roughly 2.64 gallons per day (not sure if that’s per pump or not).

Hope this helps!

Good morning. Thank you for responding….So I handnt had any responses and went ahead and ordered a hygger dosing pumping and it actually worked great initially just like planned. I have a small AIO nano….the next day I noticed the ATO working extra and the dosing pump actually back siphoned and drained about a gallon of water before I noticed…..So not sure I trust it atm.
