Auto Water Changes

I'm guessing this gets asked frequently in here, but I skimmed through the threads still showing and didn't see any.

My controller just showed up yesterday (Profilux Plus II), along with a power bar, ph probe, and temp probe. I have a 3-pump doser coming in within the next few days to dose the Fauna Marin dosing salts.

I want to set the controller up for both auto top off as well as automatic water changes.

Can anybody explain to me what I need to buy for these two operations?

For ATO - I was looking at an online dealer and there is a float sensor and an optical level sensor. What is the difference? Are both necessary?

For Automatic Water Change (AWC) - I'm completely new to this concept, so I don't know where to being here. I am planning on using all 3 pumps on the doser for actual chemical dosing, so do I need another 2-pump doser, or can you do the AWC without additional dosing pumps?

Hi

You just need a float or optical switch with the mounting hardware.

The only difference with the two types of switch is that the float needs a bit more maintenance and if a wondering snail finds it could create a false activiation, but in most cases they are in the sump and work very well. The optical requires less maintenance and is not so subject to wandering critters.

For ATO you can use a 4th dosing pump that can be added to your 3 dosers, and for AWC you just need a small little pump in the resevior
