hey all-
when you quarantine a new fish, do you give it meds? or wait for signs of disease?
if you do give meds, what kind?

thanks!

It depends on what kind of fish it is, but for the most part I treat all new fish with prazipro to get rid of flukes and other parasites. I only treat with prazipro in the last stretch of quarantine to make sure the fish are eating well and not too stressed out.

+1 on automatic Prazi for flukes. Flukes are too hard to see on the fish (without a freshwater dip anyway), and if they get in your display it's a royal pain to deal with. I got flukes in my display from a group of anthias I didn't quarantine, and I learned the hard way about both the need for QT and prophylactic medication.

While I believe that a quarantine tank is for observation, and a hospital tank is for treatment, the approach above is excellent.
