average lifespan

I heard an LFS employee telling another customer today that he did not think a seahorse is a good choice because they have a short lifespan. I knew the other customer and i know that she has a 90g reef and now a 30g dedicated seahorse tank. He said to her that the average lifespan of a seahorse is 8 to 10 months. Is this true? Just wondering if the LFS employee again does not know what they are talking about or a true statement.

Thanks, Mike

If you are talking about wild caught seahorses and improper care, that would probably be correct. If you are talking about true "aquacultured" captive bred seahorses in a proper setup, you should probably expect anywhere from 4 to 7 years depending upon the species.

I have a WC who I have kept for 5 years. He was full grown on purchase so no real way to know how old he is right now.

He is a reidi.

I was ignorant at the time of purchase so really attribute much of my initial succsess to luck and karma.
