avoiding ich and hitchhiker- urgent please advise

I just received chunk of chaeto macroalgae from LFS.
how do I avoid the introduction of Ich and hitchhikers?
we don't do TTM for non fish . do I need to wash it with special solution?

I don't think there are special solutions and the Internet seems to imply copper would kill the macro, or at least contaminate your DT.

For 3 months+, chaeto should be easy to keep in a bucket to let it go fallow or however long you want to wait.

If you search for dip chaeto you will find other people talking about putting it in the fridge overnight, or a freshwater dip.

other than leaving it in a container by itself for 72 days there is not much else to be done. I personally would not be concerned about ich on the cheato.

to minimize your chances you can do a dip in three different saltwater buckets. this would help to dilute any of the original water from transferring into your sump. Good luck just my 2 cents.

ok. I will do a 5 min fresh dip then 3 washes in salt water
