This footage was taken in Florida by Charlie Mazel. He was using a video camera at night equipped with a blue light source and a yellow filter on the lens. Much of the light that you see, particularly the yellow on the stomatopod, is the result of fluorescence. We used this video as part of the basis for a paper on fluorescence in stomatopods that appeared in the journal Science last winter. The species is Lysiosquillina glabriuscula and the male in the video is about 17 cm long.
