B-ionic Ca/Alk

Hello fellow reefers

So i have been dosing the two part B-ionic Ca/Alk and there's two things that make me wanna get into something else:

1. Manual dosing can be tough at times, missing a few days and stuff like that

2. Dosing it by small cups raises PH in .20, so if my PH is 8.20, after dosing it raises up to 8.40 in seconds which is a huge jump in PH, i know it's not very healthy, what do you think?

Any suggestions besides Kalkwasser with ATO and Ca reactor?

while I am no Randy I do not think your tank's overall PH would be increasing that much on a 50g. Maybe the initial reading from a monitor might show such a jump but I would think it would level off quite quickly. B Ionic is a fine choice for alk/cal supplement. I've seen Randy recommend it many times. a DIY recipe as well as Pickling lime are also good choices. Both of these methods would have very similar results as the ESV route though.

Again, I do not think you have a problem with increased PH other than the initial increase upon dosing.

Use a dosing pump with the B-ionic, like a bubble magus or something similar. There are a few relatively inexpensive models that have the dosing pump and the controller built into one device. You will get much better results with your two part than you are today. Your water parameters will be much more stable and your corals will appreciate it.

I use pickling lime via my ATO personally as it keeps up with my tanks demands (except my 300g). I manually dose Randy's DIY. Many people have great success using the dosing pumps sold by BRS to deliver the goods. Maybe check them out if that's what your looking to do. I believe 2 of them are cheaper than that unit you posted. I have no experiance with it.

It looks OK. The price is very reasonable. It looks more complicated than some of the other models out there when it talks about # of on off events, and pump speed settings. It sounds like you will have to do a lot of testing with it to figure out how much is being dosed into the tank. Other all-in-one pumps will have simply a ml amount you set for the day and how many times you want it to dose in the day, and that is it. I have never used the Marine Magic pump so it may very well be intuitive to use.

I think SWC just came out with a doser that looks pretty much identical to the Bubble Magus, for maybe a few dollars less. It may very well be a repackaged version of the exact same pump. I use a Bubble Magus and I am very pleased with the results. I have also used the Bulk Reef Supply dosing pump, and it works well, but you need a controller to run it.

I'm familiar with Bubble Magus T01, but the reason i'm leaning towards the Marine Magic is the price of $180 shipped, compared to Bubble Magus at $300, that's $120 difference not counting the shipping...

I have used B-ionic for years with no trouble. I get tired of the daily manual dosing. I just ordered 2 AquaHouse dosing pumps from Premium Aquatics. I have two tanks. The pumps were $85 each. Orders over $175 ship free within 3 business days. i intend to set them up this week or more likely over the weekend.
