B/W clown...add another?

I have had this clown in the tank for about a year. Its 3" long at the moment. What is the possibility of another one being put in the tank and they get actually get along?

Okay you have a 3" clown more than likely female.So you would want to get the smallest clown you could find.When I say smallest I mean like a 1".I cant say they will get along just fine and start breedeing after 6 months.All I can do is tell you what might work!But I woul dsay they SHOULD get along.There will be some fighting.To what point I dont know till you try!

+1 on finding a small clown, and maybe you will get lucky and they will become a mated pair.

CB juvenile ocellaris are widely available at about 1"-1.5". You might have to look a little harder (maybe go online, depending on where you live) to find another B&W ocellaris, but I've seen them offered at LFSs a lot more frequently in the past 6 months or so. I think the size difference will be enough for them to settle dominance and form a pair pretty painlessly.

You can also pair a B&W ocellaris with a regular orange ocellaris, and they will do just fine. Same species, just different morphs.

Really? When I was in the LFS getting my second clown I was looking at a Black Occelaris to pair with my orange occelaris, and I was told that the color difference alone was enough to spark problems between the two.

I believe it, mainly because the guy could have made an $80 sale instead of a $34 sale by selling me a black instead of an orange, but he was strongly advising against doing so.

Now, I don't claim to be an expert, but I trust this employee more than others at the LFS.

I've never heard of its being a problem. I've seen many "mixed" pairs of ocellaris and used to have one myself. Black ocellaris are reputed to be slightly more aggressive, which might imply that the black fish would be more likely to dominate; in fact, a friend of mine who's been in the business almost 20 years says that almost invariably the black clown will become the female. But it can be done successfully. She used to pair up orange and B&W ocellaris all the time with no problems.
