B/W Ocellaris Always In The Back! Why?

So I got a roughly 2" black/white ocellaris about two and a half weeks ago. Anyways he's eating well, happy and healthy but he always hangs out along the back wall of my AP24, I have plenty of swimming room and yet he always just hangs in the back bobbing around constantly. The only time he explores is if the pumps are off and doing a water change. Do I have too much flow? I have a MJ1200 with stock dual Loclines and a K1. He does dart to the front sometimes to grab a stray pellet but then goes back. I'm not really worried that he has a problem just sad because I see most people's clowns always venturing around and such. My sand bed has tons of pods and no one is eating them!

At first I figured he needed a few days but its been about two weeks now, he's explored the tank with the pumps off so its not like he just thinks the tank is the back wall and that's it. Does he need another clown to feel safer?

Any ideas appreciated, I'd really like to watch and enjoy my clown more rather then always having to look behind the rockwork.

can you explain the setup in the tank, it might help to figure out why he likes the back, or even better a phot of the tank as well so we can see whats goin on.

it could be that's where his host is, the back wall

Agreed, he has defined his territory along that back wall and will not stray far from it.

It may be the front to you. Fish don't know what's the front and whats the back. He's just knows he likes where he is. That being said some fish are just wimps and will hide. In time he'll likely become more social.

It may be due to hes still just adjusting to the tank or that's where its declared his space in the tank. My son had one in his Nano that spent 70% of his time in the back corner. It came out to eat or do its rounds once in a great while but mainly stayed pretty close to the back corner.

Hm, I really hope he's not hosting the back wall, it sounds like hosting behavior to me but I guess it varies from clown to clown because I've seen ones that will follow people around the glass explore around etc. He's missing out on all of the tank! Pods are having a fiesta in my sand bed and he's ignoring it.

Anyways here's a shot of my tank when i first set it up. The K-Nano is gone now replaced with a K1 thats on the back wall pointing forward and I have a few colonies of zoas, kenya tree and GSP now.

My clowns used to do that, till they started hosting. To be honest once the novelty of them being in the anemone wore off, I found them to be quite boring

Haha, I've heard that too. My friends Picassos never leave their host. Maybe with the introduction of another ocellaris, maybe a blenny and some peppermints shrimp the idea of exploring will be more interesting.

Hmmm... I want to get an anemone, but i never heard that they stop following you. My clowns follow us all around the apartment. If I am in the living room they follow back and forth across the glass. They will even follow my finger up and down. They can see out of the back of the tank to the kitchen and try to swim behind the rocks if I am in the kitchen. They love to play in front of the korilia that i just put in.
