? Babbys?

With that kind of food, no wonder they are breeding.
Really, the light cycle may have something to do with your success as well.
They will probably continue to breed about every 14 days if not more frequently.
Most larval fish are attracted to light. Use a small flashlight to attract the larvae to one area of the tank and scoo them out in a cup. Then transfer them into another small tank filled with water from the parent tank. Use a small heater to kee the tank at 24-27 C and aerate with a tube and single bubble aeration. Try to feed rotifers at first. May have to a smaller food source.

Do not get discouraged by failures. Successful breeders have had MANY failures before learning the best way to raise their baby fish!!!!
Thanks for the info. and keep us posted!

Lfduty, now I am beginning to understand better what you write!lol:p
English is a very simple and easy language but it has two problems;one is spelling. If you know how a word sounds you don´t know how to spell it.And if you know how to spell it you don´t know how it sounds!:D

I am impressed with your firefish breeding. There are very few reports on this fish breeding.
First, they are very difficult to mate. Two fish might get along in the lfs tank and some few days after you bring them home, they kill each other,or one jumps out.
Second, you say the larvae were found when you came home from work (in the evening,I guess). It means they survived all day long.or even several days together with the adults which should have dispatched them in a matter of minutes, and they were not filtered out from the tank!
Normally firefish stay hovering in the open. But a brooding male should visit frequently the site of the nest to take care of it.But you found that BOTH parents disappeared for long time in the rockwork?

So please tell us more. How did you pair them off, just by luck?
Size of the tank and how is it plumbed?
How long the larvae survived?

Good luck and keep us posted, they will spawn again:)

i did not pair them i just got them from the LFS that waythe tank is a 45 hex and the water is moveing slow like you would have in a seahorse tank. when i got home it was 1:00 imn the morning and when i got up is when i seen them in the tank.. i hate to say that i have not seen them in 2 days i thenk mom and dad is eating the fry. but next time i will get them out of the tank and hope thay live. I was not expecting them this time. the funny thing is i was not going to try and breed them at all so it was unexpected this time but i will be wateing next time..

I did not pair them up. They just happened to be the only two we could find that day. They stuck together like glue ever since we brought them home. At the LFS they were in separate tanks. Mine first started to spawn in my 90gal. with 4 other fish in it. We have moved them to a 29gal. nano. They are still spawning. The female comes out a lot while the male attends inside the rock. They both fan the eggs (i am assuming) since they come out turn around and fan their tails.
I feed them frozen mysis, frozen brine, formula 1, rotifers, reef stew and homemade food.
The temp stays between 78 and 80 degrees.
I only have a 1in. sand bed.
My lights are on about the same an lfduty.
My firefish come out frequently and I have been able observe their spawning techniques since Jan. I hope to be able to see babys soon.
Keep me posted on how yours are doing. Not to many people to talk to about breeding firefish.
Thanks Cynthia

Eney time. If you ever need help just look me up im on the
Southern Colorado Marine Aquarist Society (SCMAS) forum all the time naw.

It's been over 16 days. Have you seen them spawning again? She should have laid her eggs again. Which means about ten days from that time you should have another batch of babys. Goodluck!
