... Panta Rhei Sponge Pellets ...

How is their food?
I checked their website and saw that they have a few interesting foods for reef fish:
- Panta Nouri Plankton
- Panta Nouri Sponge
- possibly also Panta Nouri Polyp (though I'm not sure if it's a good idea to feed that to my guys - it could give them some bad ideas...)

I'm not sure it is good or not because I am not an experienced reefer. Tanne Hoff use this pellets for his Oxymonacanthus halli. The owner of Panta Rhei Matthias Kählig visit me sometimes with a together friend to set to my Panta Rhei Hydro Wizards ECM 63. He told me this food is extra for polyp eater fish like butterfly to make a right diet for this fish and reducing deficiency and to safe corals. But I can't confirm that because I can't test it rightly. I mix four pellets together for my fish in this moment. Ocean nutrition formula one and two and Panta Rhei Sponge and polyp. The fish pick up everything of pellets and don't chose.

Thomas his Pygoplites diacanthus is from 2003!!! I know this is no problem for a angel but also not daily.

Did his Pygoplites grow in that period?
I had a Pacific Pygoplites diacanthus pair from 1991 to 2002. I never noticed them growing a bit, but also didn't measure them. Though the gill spine length didn't change which is kind of an indicator of arrested physical development.

BTW: how is the ECM 63 for a reef tank? Their website claims it is self cleaning.
The pumps I have currently lose power way too fast and require frequent cleaning to restore performance.

I have four pumps since one year. Don't clean them in this time. Just by rebuild I clean them. In this moment there is a hype for that pumps. Normally the ECM 43 because 63 is more for very big tanks. The Panta Rhei products are very pricy. Made in Germany. I can't say something bad about that pumps . Just price.


Can't say something about Tanne s Pygoplites. But the only size I ever see in Germany by red Sea regals is this size. Never see a tiny one. Don't know why. Grey belly you see often very tiny ones.

Does De Jong have Red Sea Regal Angels now or still primarily Maldives Regals? Back in the 90s I never saw a Red Sea Regal there, but only Maldives by the hundreds. Those were also rather large at the time. Though Maldives Regals can be found quite small these days. I got a 55 mm Maldives Regal earlier this year and he is doing great. Coloration wise I could not see any difference between the Red Sea, Maldives and Sumatra Regals I have or had.

And yes, most of the tiny ones come from the Philippines, but not many large ones. I don't know why for sure, but suspect that they found out where the tiny ones are hiding.

Back in 1991 I found one single blue-grey Regal at De Jong. Later I had a German wholesaler find me a second to make a pair.
Here I see now lots of the tiny Philippine Regals, but rarely any large ones.

That's possible but I wouldn't rule out that the smaller ones are in higher demand due to their less obvious less in demand grey belly coloration.

Dejong get 4 till 6 Red Sea Regals a month. I'm sure they're from Red Sea because he named them Red Sea/Indian and when he listed Red Sea/Indian they listed the same day Sohal and xanthurum. So I'm sure he listed the right Red Sea Regals. Hope you understand what I mean.

The Pacific ones are more common by Dejong but not hundreds. Maybe 20 by import.

The years when I went to De Jong angels and butterflies were in highest demand due to the import ban in Germany. Back then he had at times literally hundreds of the Maldives regals.
As for taking the sohal as indicator - the LFS that often has the Sumatra and Philippine regals here also has frequently sohal or other Red Sea fish, but he doesn't want to order the Red Sea regals because they are way too expensive. De Jong told me pretty much the same thing and also added that the Maldives regals are easier to acclimate. So I could imagine that he still gets them rather from the Maldives than the Red Sea. Maybe ask him next time you are there.
