Baby Bangaii hatching Video

Hi all!

This video is of Day 19 (from date of egg transfer to male) bangaii babies. You can see them in the tumbler as they have started to emerge from the egg sack. Also a few have already decided to swim out of the tumbler and into the holding net.

Timeline for these babies:
Egg transfer to male - March 8 2006 Day 0
Forced Spit of eggs - March 13 2006 Day 5
Date of Video - March 27 2006 Day 19

See timeline above I had forced the spit on day 5.

I have updated the video with some shots from the 21 or so that hatched today. Also included a shot of the tumbler and some closeups.

Excellent job stephen. See i told ya the tumbler ideas work, best part is the male banggai only has to carry for a few days. This increases your production by 80%, since you only have to wait a few days after egg transfer

Man, I miss myy bangaiis. I lost my breeding pair when I moved their tanks to my new house (3 1/2 years ago). I've tried to get other pairs, unsuccessfully.. All the LFS's here only get wild caught, with those nasty internal parasites, and I've tried piperazine and praziquental to no avail. I need to find a LFS that gets captive breds in. I have a single bangaii that I got from the LFS that someone traded in, we call him gigantor (biggest bangaii I've ever seen). I've gotten 2 dozen from shipments (4 each time) and tried medications in a quarantine tank, but always lose them within 7-10 days.

Given enough time, I'll cough up the dough and get ORA's when I finally find them locally..

When I had my breeders, I always took pappa out around day 20-21, put him in a breeder net, and never had issues (caught him by turning the lights on late at night and I had a 1-2 minute window while he was stunned so I could catch him)

Is there still a persistent problem with wc bangaii's? I though it was better now. One lfs here has a nice group of fairly large fish that have been there a couple weeks now, they seem fine. Good price too, $12.95 I think. Been thinking about getting a few. I have a single male I raised when I was breeding them, he's about 4 years old I guess. Sort of like to put him up against "gigantor" and see who's bigger :smokin:

IME there is still an issue with parasites and WC bangaii. Recent purchases similar to Nagel's turned out the same way. Many dead WC Bangaii. They would eat, sometimes stuffing themselves until they bulged but just never seemed to get healthy.

It is just sad to see it happen. We need more folks breeding these guys...

Around here it is. They died 4 at a time, roughly 2 - 4 months between each purchase. Basically over the last 24 months.

I'd love to. Now how do you judge size LOL. Photoshop works wonders :lol:

Seriously though, his body (not fins) is about the size of a half dollar, even a little larger probably.. Even my breeding pair wasn't his size. They were a little larger then a quarter (again, just body, not fins)

Wow! Great video! Seeing the little balls of striped fish with an eyeball here and there is just amazing. Very exciting to see that the tumbler is working. Congrats!

Usually they are at or just under 1/4" Total Length.
