Baby Bangaii hatching Video

Is that a DIY jar or did you buy it? I was just looking through the AES catalog and they have a hatching jar set up that looks pretty nice for $27. I'm sure I could rig something but $27 is nothing in the grand scheme of breeding, I think I'll buy one.

Hi David, yes that is the AES hatching jar. I bought the complete kit which has the pump, tubing, breeder basket, jar, and a 10 gallon "critter keeper" style tank.

Was a bit more than 27.00 but well worth it IMO...

Glad you guys are enjoying the video!!!

Yea the kit is around $90. I certainly have pumps, tubing and a zillion tanks lying around and can make a collector any size, shape and mesh I need. Besides I'm a cheap bastard, think I'll just get the jar :D

Well the young are a week old (yesterday) and all are still kicking and doing well. I have started the move to cyclopeeze. I am mixing a little into their tank with the bbs.

I have two Banggais, and they make some strange clicking noise when they chase each other(Ah, actually, bigger one is chasing the smaller one).
Does your banggai make such noise?
Does this sound mean they are fighting or mating?

Mine make clicks or grunts during the mating dance. I think most fish can be vocal. I know my clowns grunt at me when it gets close to feeding time.

Interesting.
When I did snorkeling in Okinawa, I heard the voice of clown fish when I invaded their territory.
(She even bite my finger).
So it's not clear what the sound of Banggai means , fight or love.
I should continue watching them.
Thanks!

Here is a two week update. 20 of the 21 are still alive and well. Still eating bbs but being moved to cyclopeeze. Another batch in the tumbler as well.

Hey that's great but I have to tell you I found an even easier way  Yup, the friend I posted about in the other thread gave me 23 babies the other day :D He pulled the male and induced release rather than let them loose in the reef tank. All 23 are doing well at 6 days and they all ate cyclops from the first day I got them (two days old). :smokin:

Your right THAT is EASIER!!! Congrats! Mine never have that many when I let them carry to term. Most I got was 5.

Get some pics up here!!!

quote--"How do you induce the male to spit the eggs out?"

you can a number of thing to make the male spit out th eeggs. Anything from chasing it around the tank & capturing it w/ a net, to physcially grabbing the fish and lightly push on its jaw while your tipping it head down.

Eileen,

Was just talking to Jimsar the other day about baby bangais. He said he waits for the lights to go out on his tank for a while, then he sneaks up on the fish with a bright flashlight and surprise him.

The fish freezes with his mouth open when the light goes on, and all the babies swarm out, and he catches the babies. Funny :)

Thanks - I was thinking of inducing the male to spit the eggs out as the male never carries the eggs to term.

If you have a way of tumbling the eggs, or separating the fry...then I say pull 'em. How long does he usually hold the eggs?

I have a male that spits on the night of day one everytime...So I pull them as soon as I notice them holding.
