Baby Clam

I'm confused. I see two squamosas, a maxima, and what looks like maybe a second maxima in your picture - and nothing else.

Is that your tank - or a dealer's tank? Where is the crocea?

I have 7+ clams in my tank so I don't see what seeing more then one means imo. Yea riptidesreef is a really nice guy. I picked up some from him off ebay this week. Let us know the details on that clam. It is a real beauty and I hope it does well. I'm trying to find one but trying to find it a wee bit cheaper. I probably won't have any luck heh.

Yes it can. It can spread very fast. I am very picky when buying clams. I wait till I see it in the store for awhile before I buy it and I only buy from 2 places. I haven't tried riptides yet but it seems most of his stuff seems nice.

My friend's clams got PM that he got from someone down south in florida. Within 3 days, he lost all of them to PM. FWD did help temporarily but it stil bit the dust.

Sometimes it is just bad luck unfortunately. I bought a clam 2 weeks ago. It was in the store for several months. They just gave me a good offer so I picked it up. However, the store is always very good about their livestock.

Well i dipped my little clam about 12hrs ago only about 5in. and already he looks better. I have faith in this little clam hes a fighter :D

Great job donavan. Looks nice.

I don't think the picture above is PM. It could possibly be but that clam appears to be a squamosa. Picture is a bit blurry. Squamosas generally only extend to the top edge of their scutes. I'd check in another day and see the progress but keep an eye on it for sure.

From what I can tell, it could very well be it. From the scutes and the way the mantle layed it appeard as a squamosa plus coloring sort of seemed similiar. If it doesn't improve in a day, you might want to consider a fw dip. Check on here for instructions. You are going to want to match the ph and temp. Also, I don't recall the amount of time, but not enough and it will not help. Too much and well... too much.

You could try 5 minutes like Donavan but I don't recall if that is the minimum or if they recommend more.

Well i talked to Barry at Clamsdirect & he said to match the temp. He diden't say anything about PH so i diden't adjust it. He said the Max for this small of a clam is 5min. so thats what i did. My little guy seems much better but he also stated i may need to repeat the dip in a week if the problem presisted. I woulden't dip it longer than 5min. as it may be too stressfull on that little guy & it could kill it.

i am going to do a water change because he hasn't looked the same for a week.
my sg. was off and i think i fixed it to fast so it could be stress.
i cant even get close to the tank with out it partially closing so the pics make it look a littlw worse than it is. it just doesent expand much past the shell. it does not look the same as DonavonsReef
