My ocellaris clowns are 9 days old now. I'm such a proud father! There are about 15 of them still.

Yup, these were from those eggs. It's still a long ways away to sell them. They won't be "in the clear" for another two weeks or so. Then they won't be ready for sale for another 3 months or so. I don't really plan on selling them individually to people.

Ill take three!:lol2:
Just for reference these little guys are only 1/4'' if that you can barely tell what they are with the naked eye.

IME even not in the clear a month or two into it. But they look good and fat. as a general rule, 10-15% of babies will make it into adulthood as an average, according to the darwin theory atleast. My last batch i had 20 babies i secured and only 3 made it to adulthood

buying and selling needs to be done in the appropriate forums, that you can't see you Geoff, because it requires that you be a member for 90 days and have 50 quality posts. They will magically appear once you qualify.

I'd be happy with a 10-15% rate for now. My clowns lay close to 500 hundred eggs. 15% wouldn't be good enough for a good breeder though. Once they hit a month or two, they should be taking pellet food. By then they should be on a flow through system with good water quality and fed at least twice a day.

This shouldn't be in violation of RCs selling policies, but if it is, feel free to lock/delete/whatever mods. I don't plan on selling these fish on RC. They will probably make their way to a LFS, but one or two may end up at a frag swap.

nice. my first attempt failed misrably. congrats on meta

yeah. I didn't get any even to meta my first couple times. I think my third time I got like 5 to two weeks old. My fourth time I was actually able to get 4 to three months old. I lost one when I went on vacation, and a third one mysteriously disappeared. The two you saw in my 75g display are the only two left from my 4th try.

Just keep the nanno and rots going strong. Load up the fry tank with rotifers (before the fish hatch if possible) and a little phyto to tint the water. There should be enough rotifers in the 10g tank so you can't see through the other side.

What failed miserably? How did they die?

the eggs went milky and didn't hatch. parent tank was neglected, salinity ran high (.1029) while i was getting the hatching tank ready. i think i had several factors against me. balancing temp ,rot/phyto density and water quaity didn't come together. . pyto bloomed /rots crashed . aerating the eggs the eggs on tile ,and keeping favorable flow for rots didn't happen. i'm enjoying the challenge and believe i'm on the right path. phyto/rot cultures seem to be strong ,and i should be better preparred for the next clutch. i've gained a ton of respect for breeders that make this happen on a consistaant basis.

I think the site doesn't allow breeding/selling of fish on here. Only coral frags...

You are right, but why derail this thread? You can post pictures if you are not a commercial hobbyiest trying to sell.

How much bubbling were you putting over the eggs? Milky/white eggs usually mean they got a fungus because of lack of water flow. Did you get a chance to start reading those books I let you borrow?

Thank you for the clarification Debi. I have no intent to sell them here on RC. Just sharing some pictures.

i read a good deal of both books, thanks again. i gave them fairly strong aeration during the day ,then cut it before lights out. my eggs had been hatching on day 8. for whatever reason , they failed to hatch on day 8,9,10. i exposed them to strong mh light during transfer , i read this might delay hatching? then conditions got worse, as time went on. i'm fairly certain i made several minor and major mistakes that ultimately were too much for the eggs.

You'll get another chance. I always pull the eggs right after the lights go out on the main tank the day the eggs are supposed to hatch. They can be out of water for a while with no problems.
