I have had received a few e-mails from people in the past wanting mertensii, but can't find their names or user ID's right now, so I'll post it here.

The store is Aquatic Collection dot com, in Hayward California and phone 510-259-6280. I attached a pic they sent me, lets hope this will work:

Hi! We were @ the coastal area of your neighborhood, but didn't make it to see Jimmy. Has he gotten any thing new, lately??

He had 5 or 6 nice blue/purple gigs and an assortment of all colors of haddoni. He is down to two large gigs, but still has red, blue and green haddoni in different sizes.

Thanks for the info, too bad I can't add any thing right now, but will stop and take a look next time I am in your area.

what are you keeping these days?

I saw it a couple weeks ago and it looked great, especially for just coming in. It's a really nice color compared to other mertensii I've seen.

I did pick up the gigantea. It was beautiful. Unfortunately it never fully expanded and I battled the typical inflation/deflation cycle of a sick gig. I made it to week three and thought I was over the hump, then for some unexplained reason it quickly went downhill. It shed its nematocysts, some falling on my lobo and inflicting quite a bit of damage. After that it never recovered and melted away. It was the worst loss in my 20+ years of reefkeeping. I finally feel like I've recovered and am ready to try again, but I haven't seen a gig in a LFS since AC received the one I purchased and Robert received three small ones about a month after that.

That's tough, loosing a gigantea with such an awesome colorations. I feel for you, but it may not have been any thing you've have done.
Just the way it is with this species, don't give up though. If I see a healthy one, I'll let you know.

Thank you. I appreciate the kind words. I actually considered buying the mertensii based solely on our previous discussion and your recommendation, but my heart is set on a gigantea -- and only a gigantea. Healthy ones are definitely hard to come by. I've seen some online, but none looked "happy". Tentacle extension was not how I'd like to see it -- physically looked almost like haddoni. If you come across a healthy one, do let me know!
