Baby Percs.

Just wanted to share a pic of one of my new Percula clowns. I bought two one inch long percs last week from a tank of juvies. They are thriving and eating well. It's so cool to watch them because they are already showing signs of pairing. One (the one pictured) is bossier than the other and obviously wants to be the female LOL. The other already does a little shaking dance in front of "her". They are housed in a 29 AGA and will be the only fish in there. I have a sunpod 30" 150w 14,000k MH. AquaC remora skimmer, Aquaclear 110 HOB filter running as a small fuge. There's 3 GSP colonies, my first Ric (orange) and an orange Monti Cap growing happily.

Looks good! I just bought my first two fish for my tank, a pair of clowns (they were already paired at the store). Im just a noob, but your pic looks like an A. Ocellaris as opposed to a Perc. Either way, good luck!

They were sold to me as captive bred Percs and I paid Perc prices too $24.99 as opposed to $14.99 for osc. at my LFS (so, grrr if they aren't) !!!!!!

I thought from the number of spines that they are percs...anyone out there who is an expert know if this is a perc or osc? I sure would like to know. Not that I would trade them either way but I would appreciate a refund for selling me the difference ;)

Thanks.

Eh...lucky! My LFS sells Percula and Ocellaris clowns for $30.00 :(

I'm certainly not an expert, but I think they might be Percula. Chances are if they are CB clowns, the LFS knows what they are (unless they're a little less than honest.)

I'm counting 10 dorsal spines, and as far as I know both species can have 10. The shade of orange makes me think perc, and the eye looks a little different from my Ocellaris.

heres up pic of my lil percs. I thought one of the distinguishing features of the perc vs ocellaris was the thickness and amount of the black with the lines, etc..

Sorry but you got ripped off that's an occy for sure the difference is the outside of there pupil in occy's are black and perc's are orange

Here's a few more pics of the same fish. I'm so confused. I'm a newbie to clowns but sure would like to know for sure (if that's possible) what these are. Seems the eye's are a good clue but their eyes look different in different pics/angles. Thanks everyone for trying to help me ID my pets ;)

I know i'm right
That's an ocellaris clown.

I think I'm convinced my fish are occs. too. I just went back to the LFS to ask them about the fish and they had a new arrival of "perc" juvies from a different supplier. They were different than my fish. Darker almost smutty orange and orange eye rings. Anyhow, the store credited me the difference on each fish to Occ. prices so everything worked out well. My two little fishes may just be plain janes but I really love them ( hubby and kids do too) and they are bringing life and color to my little reef :D

Thanks everyone who helped ID them.

Yep...My mistake...one of the later pictures clearly shows 11 dorsal spines...I missed one in the first photo.

I've never been too good at telling the difference between the eyes.

That's not true at all. In one of the pictures you can clearly count 11 dorsal spines. A. Percula never has 11.
That makes them Ocellaris.

Cover the intake of your powerhead. They are clown fish killers.
