"Baby" RBTA?

While transferring my fish and corals back into a 125g tank I notice what I thought was a "lesion" on the stalk of one of my leathers. After closer investigation I found a "baby" RBTA. It is the size of the tip of my baby finger and all bubbled up. I already have 3 RBTAs that clone constantly. Since I received the original earlier this year it must have cloned 5 times already not counting the 3 in the tank now. I transferred the baby into the bigger tank and it settled in and finally went into hiding under a overhang, lights might have been too bright, but I could still keep track of it. It finally came out yesterday and seems to be doing great. Sorry I don't have a picture - don't have a camera right now.

I thought that RBTAs only propagated by cloning. I didn't know they produced babies, or could it be that one of the clowns nipped on a tentacle and that became the baby that I have now. I just read on another site that leaving a bit of the foot can be just enough for regeneration. I did have a clone where the foot tore when I tried to move it - maybe this is a regeneration from that? But that was a couple of months ago - although I don't know how long the baby has been in existence.

Congrats, you're a daddy :p

I have a new 3ft tank and a neon tipped anem (looks like a rose but has neon yellow tips) and it split. Freaked me out because I didn't think it was happy. Always walking around and not getting fed :o

Fran,
Good work! I think that we've met. I helped start INDMAS back in 2004 but have been out of the hobby until more recently. My guess is that the small clone split off because of the forced move you described or perhaps from some other injury (falling live rock, belligerent crab, etc). At any rate it sounds like you have quite a healthy and productive clone. Keep up the good work.

New tank, Walking around, Not getting fed, and Split. It wasn't happy! BTA's will split when they are not happy. A new tank can make a BTA stressed, walking around is a sign that it's looking for a better location, and not getting fed is never good.

John,

I remember you well. I think we met at the first meeting/frag swap I attended at the library near 10th and Rural and you also worked at Premium for a while. Am I right?

Fran,
That is correct. If I recall you were a bit of a newby to reefs then... but it doesn't sound like that anymore. I'd love to see pics of your tank sometime. Take care.

John

John,

I don't have any picture of the new tank but come on over to Indmas.org we're still going strong. I have some pictures up there of the 90 that I took down.

Still a newby though - always in training.

You take care too - have a Happy New Year.
