Can anybody tell me why my 3 week old baby seahorses, are thrashing
around violently???? Had three broods about 3 weeks ago, and they are growing really fast and the larger one's are doing the thrashing around
like something has a hold of them!!!! Any clues why???

I agree with Ray. Check you water parameters for ammonia. If not then it most likely is parasites.

Most commonly protozoa. Tanks with excessive organics will have a build up of these. Hydroids can be a cause this as well. When you have hydroids elsewhere it is very easy to cross contaminate. Hydroids can be free swimming or colonial. You have to look very close for the free swimming especially with artemia in the tank. Artemia feeds the hydroids. Toxicity from chemicals, ammonia to a lesser extent and chloramines if you water is untreated to a larger extent.

what type of seahorese fry are they as for what the others have said you cant just treat this for this and such with out knowing what type of seahorse it is just because one is a redi or a erectus doesnt mean you just treat them in the same manner god with how the others ansered its amazing they can even turn on the light switch

Another OLD post brought forward?
For seahorse fry thrashing, it doesn't matter about the species, it matters about diagnosis and treatment.
Needed information has already been given.

Some people just amuse me with their posts.

+1 for rayjay. information needed was already given as were probable causes. treatment would be the same for dwarfs, erectus, reidi, whatever....

fry will itch or thrash around for a few reasons, what are you feeding your fry with ,the food itself could be causing the problem especially if you are using the greenwater method.i would suggest a 80% water change and see if that helps or if that fails treat with malachite green and meth blue.i breed babouri seahorses and reidi and find this works for me.
