We have been back at work on our tank for the last year after a string of dissapointments led to a year of neglect. The mats of hair algae have dissipated yielding numerous new additions. We have several hundred of each of the two varieties we pictured. I would bet there were over a thousand before the repeated vaccuming as the hair algae died off. The round snails have grown rapidly although they are still under 1/4 inch across. the smaler conical snails are barely 1/8 inch long. I dont know where they fly off to all day but every night they show their numbers. Thanks for any help.

The second picture is of colinista sp. I think, but I not a seasoned expert. They are reef safe I believe.

thanks Kuda. searched colinista and I think you nailed it! Actually beneficial and self-sustaining. Colony must have loved me for not changing my bulbs. thanks again. One down, one to go.

thanks israelnajar. I hope you are right. It seems that the other option is a parasitic pyram...something. I'll get my microscope out of the attic tomorrow. the easy difference I've come up with so far is that the apex(point) of the rissoid continues to spiral and the pyrams apex loop rotates 90 degrees(looks kinda blunt). Thanks
