BACFM: Where were the MARtianS?

Unarce

Unshackled
Wow! The Bay Area Coral Farmers Market was great. I don't think I've ever soon so much primo stuff in one place before. SoCal's got it made.

I know some of you had prior engagements (Tim's b-day, Dave's business trip, Prez went diving), but the MARS presence was generally, pretty low. You guys missed out on some end-of-day bargains and freebies.

i thought that a friend was supposed to come home from nepal yesterday but her flight was delayed-- so, i actually could have attended. i wish i went-- i really, really wanted to pick up a few pieces. now, i guess i'll just have to take them from your tank while you sleep, karl. :D

what'd you end up with?
-danny

There was a whole lot of LPS to be had. There was at least 4 Watermelon Chalices available. A couple of Acan bowerbanki's and a one Acan maxima for auction. Those are the 'IT' corals, as far as LPS is concerned.

Most of what was on my short list wasn't available there, but I picked up a few pieces.

Anthony (little_d) scored a really nice Montipora that I haven't seen before. There's the usual yellow with purple polyps, but this one was purple with yellow polyps.

Hopefully, he'll post some pics:D

I'd be careful with some of the monti's that have been comeing in lately. I know a lot of them are being collected from DEEP water, and end up bleaching as soon as people put them under MH, so I would deffinatly start it off low...
An example of this is a piece of baby blue encrusting monti I got a few months ago....started to receed, so I put it in the shade. It lived, but is getting darker and darker all the time...now there is no blue to be seen on it and the coral is almost black in color..poylps are out and everything, but I swear the coral will be completly black in another month or so...

I know what you mean, Dave.

It's pretty easy to avoid all that Tonga stuff, though. The stuff always looks bleached to high heaven, anyway:lol:

The piece that Anthony got looked very, very healthy, with excellent polyp extension.

That is def. a good sign. I want to see pics of the stuff that everyone got...I'm going to start saveing for the next event...I want one of those watermellon chalice's.....

Here is the picture of the monti I got, there are many nice pieces at many other booths but after we revisited them the second time it as gone, people are buying up really quick.

What'd you get Karl? I was wondering why they had it on a Sunday? I was busy at church, so I couldn't make it. Anyone else with pictures of the event?

I was all primed to go, and hurt my hand Saturday nigth trying to fill my autotopoff. I need to rememebr that I'm bareyl 3 weeks out of surgery. Sunday mornign it had swelled qwuite a bit and hurt like crazy. So I thought it best if I just stayed home, kept it elevated and rested it. I was looking forward to seeing everyone and getting some crazy coral. Oh, well. Maybe next time.

Damn, Marc! Sorry to hear about your hand. Gresham was looking all over the place for you. Hope it gets better soon. Sounds like we all need to take a road trip to the SW-CFM in February:D

Xia - I'd like to refrain from discussing what I got from the event. Only because it could determine how much money I spent, along with this online papertrail, that could possibly put me in deep doo-doo with the misses;)

Karl, ya I felt bad, I was supposed to hook up with Gresham and talk some shop and do lunch. I couldn't find his cell number in my horizontal filing system. I just need to rememebr to take it easy for the 5-6 weeks I was told "NO LIFTING!!!!".

I'm glad you got to go and had a niice time.

Too bad you didn't go. I would have slapped you a high five and given you very heavy objects to carry. It was cool. JusReefin (Rob), Pam, and John were there hanging out in the Your Reef booth. I bought some really nice Pavona maldevensis frags from them (I'm not sure why it took me so long to get some).

His frags were huge and the prices was excellent. It was like buying premium mini-colonies for brownout frag prices.

little_d,

Did you get that monti from Reef Tec Designs, ie. Ron?

I got a frag from him as well, high quality coral!, and on his website he calls it "supergirl."

Did anyone else nab some of Ron's Supergirl monti?
