Back again, any more ideas, or should I just tap out?

so, just baking soda, or randys recipe? I don't really need to address the calcium right now, but would it hurt to dose the recipe, and will it raise my calcium too high, or just baking soda I guess is what I'm asking

And really the dude has been struggling for years, looking at the pictures I believe there's more opportunity for short term success with the nano. So a small win is still a win and maybe helps reinvigorate to tackle the 90.

Sorry I'm talking about the 12g tank. The reccomened dose is 16.1 ml randy 2 part, so 5ml a day for three days is a nice slow ramp up

Agreed, but I would top it off right to 9DKH right from the start. He's certainly not going to hurt anything.

And as I added to my other post(probably while you were posting), in 12G tank, just regular weekly WC's with a decent reef salt should top up any supplements that get depleted.

That was also my theory, I moved all the corals, except the crazy xenia, into the nano, to try something different, and easier/cheaper to make changes to try and fix whatever is going on, then apply that to the 90gal

Randys recipe #1 is BAKED baking soda. Randy's recipe 2 is just plain old baking soda, neither call for baking powder.

I've been doin about 25-35% WC every week or so.........

And right there could be one of the issues. It's not every week or so, it needs to be every week without fail. Specially in a nano.

Have a read through the nano section. There are a ton of people who have small nano tanks with no skimmer, no dosing, and no problems, they just do religiously weekly WC's.

Nothing you can add to your tank will replace good husbandry practices.

Sorry, I should've been more specific. I almost always do at least 25-35% weekly, if not more. I figured more is better, but hasn't seemed to make a difference, even after switching salts.....

Is it possible to actually change the water too much? There's been times, like after I added the sand, I did a WC twice a week

Right no Baking POWDER but also not Baking SODA POWDER either, I think it's a wordplay thing. And I agree 100%, weekly water changes might even be enough for his Ca, but Alk should be daily.

Like he has to mix the Baked BAKING SODA with water. Hah. Tongue twister. But important. No powder added directly to tank.

So like if you were going to do a 5g water change every Saturday, sounds good. I don't want to overwhelm though, 3 days, low lights, correct alk and let's see if that trumpet responds

ok, almost ready to try this first test. One more question, since I can't get the stuff to make randys recipe immediately (too far to lowes, etc for just calcium), can I just focus on the alk with baking soda, and see what happens to start?

I've never used Randy's two part calcium, just the alk. I use the Kent stuff for Ca and it works fine to me. So yes, just the alk. Either 7.5 today and tomorrow homer or 5 for three days. Doesn't matter much I guess. But not 15 at once
