back from the dead button polyp (pics)

Ask to get it for $50. I'm assuming it doesn't have the pump?
Get a pic and post it. They are notorious for cracking from mishandling. Make sure there aren't any leaks. That bring the price down.
FYI, when you ask to get it for $50, just say "will you take $50?" If he says no and nothing else, then get back to him and ask him what his best offer is.

It is so annoying when haggling for a price when one of the parties doesn't know how to do it and it's so damn simple!

Oh, and when you ask for it for $50, say "because I was told that is the going rate for used HOB refugiums".

People are more likely to give you a better deal if you give them a reason. Even if the reason was "beacause I don't want to pay more then $50" You'd be shocked to see how often that works.

Blah blah blah, I'll shut up now.

tank under stand = hob overflow = plumbing = why not a sump while im at it = fuel injection = cats a dogs living in peace = well you know

Mike,
Haggling is so simple, all it takes is the will to save money. You have to be prepared for the difficult sellers. The ones that are firm with their price. Unless it's a good and fair price. Yet, $65 for the small HOB refugium is not a bargain. $40 would be.

Again, most people hear the price and instead of asking for a better deal, they go "oh, ok, lemmie think about it". As far as I'm concerned, they're not ready to buy, or don't know how to haggle.

When I want to buy something, I ask the price and then give my lowest offer (unless it's a great deal to begin with).

I did that with the guy that sells the Envy Orange zoas and he didn't even respond to me. I can't help but think "knucklehead!". If he was a serious seller, he would'v come back with a counter offer. I think he wanted $250, so to come back with $225 and then we would go back and forth until we had a deal. FYI, I started at $100.;)

Anthony,
Dogs and Cats will never live in peace.;)
Don't go crazy with this tank, just do enough to make it functional. Make your mistakes now so when the larger tank comes, it'll be more seemless a transition.

Well. I never heard back from that guy.
But on that subject I definately still need a refrigum.

Even after yanking all but the carbon from that canister, my Nitrates are still hovering about 20-30. I guess that un-located goby is still 'putt'n it out'

Interestingly it hasnt has any effect on anything I can see. my 3 corals look better than ever. Not really any aglae to speak of.
The green below the sand line is from algae down in lots of scratches from when it was a turtle tank. (impossible to clean)

Im definately get a refrigum going, like you said bill for the learning experience of it

Do some reading on refugium's before commiting to one, I read that a lot of people have fuges that are as big, or in some cases bigger than their display tanks FWIW. Good job BTW !

thanks Feerlaroc! I appreciate that

Unfortunately the HOB frig in the link above is not going to work.
My tank is too close the stair railing to fit.:rolleye1:

So i guess ill maybe need to do the hob overflow and plum to one of those 10gl's and put it under the tank. The slimline one by lifereef looks like it just might fit

I think that 10gl tank might be too small for fudge and sump.
ahhh, such a slippery slope.

Those button polyps are damn weeds....you can't kill them even if you try. I pinched a few almost completely off a rock i didn't want them on and they just grew right back.

Nice tank btw :)

Hey Bill,

I was wondering if you your offer on some zoo frags your working on around this time of the year was still good ?
If not thats cool.
If it is I need to wait a bit. I had a incident with a fallen powerhead. SAND EVERYWHERE! I have it clean up as best I can but want to make sure my cycle doesnt go crazy.

I still have that nitrate issue (around 50) but I think I found it. Turns out I havent cleaned my skimmer, in and out sponges, since I put it in.
Rinsed them throughly so now Ill have to see.

Oh yeah a buddy gave me a 20gl, unfortunately its too wide to fit under my tanks as a sump (nope still havent gotten that going yet.
BUT, I think im going to make another tank with it and use a 10gl for a sump for it. Once I cut my teeh on the experience Ill use another 10 for the 55. :) was looking at a DIY PVC overflow that 'might' do the trick for me.

Hope eveyone is doing well.
Anthony

Button polyps , ahhhhhh! hahah. I had a colony eons ago, and I disliked them, sold them off. Some way, some how... I have no clue how... but they managed to still stay in my system. I just found a mini colony sprouting underneath a rock in complete darkness.

Damn weeds is right... sheesh.

Dont be a hate'n now! :bum:
Im proud of my tough as nails softies!
Its about the extent that my coral "green thumb" allows right now.

Each is own, I kinda like them ;) They kinda tell his story, with the wife killin him and the button polyps only to come back from the dead kinda thing. I think you have done a wonderfull job bringing the tank around!

Bill
Oh man!
Sorry to hear about that. Yeah dont give that another thought!
What happened? You have any threads covering your rebuild?

Angela,
Heh, Thanks Angela. I might be accused of killing that tank in the beginning, lol.
