Back Siphon with external pump

I have tried to google this question for awhile but couldn't find the information i was looking for. If i plan to run a Eheim 1262 externally to save room in my sump, does the back siphon make it into the sump somehow or does it just excrete out of the pump.

This would be my first time running a return pump externally. Also any picture of using a Eheim externally would be nice too so i can see the layout of the pump and sump.

Thanks

Whether the pump is internal or external it is a closed system from the outlet to the inlet. When the pump is on, the water flow will go inlet --> outlet, when back siphoning it will go from outlet --> inlet. So as long as the inlet is plumbed properly to the sump, that is where the water will go.

I'm not understanding.

In order to run the pump externally you have to drill the sump at the return chamber and directly connect the pump via PVC (optimally through a true union ball valve.)

Thank you for your replies guys. I think my confusion was with the inlet and outlet since i have never ran a pump externally. I have been using a quiet one pump and it didnt really have an inlet per say, that you can plumb into the drilled sump and if shut off the back siphon would just come out the pump itself and not a designated inlet

on the return to the tank you need to drill a siphon break in the return outlet so that the return doesn't siphon more water down to the sump.
