I was just wondering what some of the "experts" do to prevent their tanks from syphoning out during a power outage?

make sure your sump can handle the amount of water that the tank will back siphon to it in case of a power outage.

also, drill siphon breaks in your piping to break the siphon if the water starts to drain

Any hole in the pipe that allows air in will break the siphon. Drill a small hole just below the water line of your return. Once the water level drops below that hole the air will break the siphon.
