Background for my future tank

I want to have a rock background for my next tank. It would be either the full background or half with a slope down to the sand.
I've seen different ways to do it. What do you think about these?
1- eggcrate, foam (is it really safe for the tank?), pieces of rocks, rumble and sand
2- eggcrate, epoxy, pieces of rocks, rumble
3- cement, pieces of rocks, rumble and sand
4- cut several rocks, put the flat side against the glass and secure them with rods and epoxy (not sure about that one)
5- a better idea !

I have tried the fishing line and zip-ties around rock onto eggcrate on past tanks -- I was never happy with either of those to be honest. In the DIY forum here in RC, there are a couple of excellent threads Id love to try -- the rubble, sand and foam (some around eggcrate) then covered with epoxy to seal in the chemicals from the foam -- with the sand thrown in , it looks so darn realistc. If I ever change my landscape (which I do every few years for some reason) Ill try that method. I think it looks awesome. Ive been out of time for a bit, so have lots to catch up on, but when I get more time, Ill look for those threads and give the link.
