i would like to paint the backround of my tank black but i am not sure what kind of paint to use, how to go about painting it (with a brush or w/ spraypaint) and IF i ever wanted to get it off, how hard is that to do? just take a razorblade to it?

i know these are pretty simple questions but i couldnt find them mentioned anywhere i looked

Thanks in advance

Painting glass is a pain, it will take a few good coats, with good drying time between the two. I used regular flat black paint and a super smooth roller to paint the back of mine.

If you dont let it dry between coats you will smear it, it wont matter, but it gets annoying bc then u need just one more coat.

Just get any can of spray paint from the hardware store, and mask off the other sides with some tape and newspaper.

Use a number of thin coats until it seems opaque. I alternate up-down and side-to-side strokes with each coat. Any overspray is easily removed with a razor-blade.

Krylon Fusion is a little more expensive, but it dries real quick. If you use it, you won't have have to wait more than a few seconds between coats.

i used regular krylon gloss black, had a run you cant see and a fisheye the second coat took care of

When it comes to a good paint job, cleanliness is all. After masking, wipe down the OUTSIDE of the glass , several times, with a rag dampened with laquer thinner. Spray or roll as desired.

Wipe it down with rubbing alcohol if you have it on hand.

Krylon spray paint will make a professional painter out of you. Plus it dries fast.

I painted my tank w/ krylon fusion. I used about 6 thin coats until I got the look I wanted.

wow, lots of people responded, thanks

how hard is the Krylon Fusion to get off later IF i decide to? the same as normal paint? I've heard thats what you paint plastic with so, i wasn't sure

It'll come right off with a razor blade. I know this because one of my housemates put the black cap on the brown spray paint at some point before I did mine!
