Bacterial infection on my Majestic???

I looked through the stickies and I think my Majestic has a bacterial infection. Can anyone confirm this? It is hard to see properly as I am not a good aquarium photographer and the Majestic was not cooperating when I tried to photograph him. This is the best shot (of many) I was able to get. It looks to me like a raw spot or sore on his side. What do you think?

Could be a bacterial infection... or a coral sting or a cut. All are prone to infection. Ideally, you'd want to QT him and administer antibiotics. I've had pretty good luck using Maracyn 1 & 2 on large angels. However, if that's not really feasible, I'd suggest soaking his food in vitamin supplements (Selcon, Zoecon, Vita-chem) and stepping up your WCs. Sometimes the fish's immune system can handle it with just a little help.

Thanks for the reply b0bab0ey. I forgot to mention that the Majestic is in QT, along with my mated Ocellaris clowns, Domino, Blue Damsel, Naso and four chromis. I had an ich outbreak in my DT and am running the tank fallow for 8 weeks. The fish have been in a 75 QT for 4 weeks now with Cupramine. I plan on doing a water change to lower the Cupramine. I beleive you can run Maracyn with Cupramine without ill effects. I do soak all food in Selcon and Garlic. The infection began on the Majestic while he was in QT. I will be getting some Maracyn tomorrow.

Pick up some Maracyn 2 while you're at it. That way you're covered for both gram positive and gram negative infections. And don't get discouraged if you don't see improvement right away. The Maracyns contain safe, but slow acting antibiotics. Sometimes two rounds are required.

I went to four seperate LFS today and not one carried the Maracyn. Some used to but don't any longer. I eventually decided to buy Erythromycin from API which I think will work on the symptoms my Majestic has been showing.

FYI, Maracyn is erythromycin; Maracyn-2 is minocycline.

I don't know what else they add to it, other than some B-complex vitamins. Which is an appetite stimulant I guess you could add yourself. I've just always had good luck with Maracyn 1 & 2.

It's been a few days since I completed the erythromicin treatment for my Majestic. I can't say it has gotten better, but it definitely has not gotten any worst. How long should it take before the sores start healing over? Do I need to treat again?

IME erythromycin is very safe, but it's not always the most fast-acting antibiotic. So, you'll probably need to do a 2nd round.

If you don't see improvement after the 2nd round, then it's very possible that your angel has a gram-negative infection. Erythromycin only treats gram-positive infections. For gram-negative, you could treat with minocycline. In fact, you can use erythromycin & minocycline together.
