Bad day at the Lab!

This morning I attempted to connect up the Webserver and couldn't seem to figure anything out, so in reading more and more, decided to upgrade the firmware to the newest 5.03c ... It crashed.

I was trying to do everything via a USB cable since computers don't have RS232 ports these day and most haven't had them for a few years now.

So I downloaded and tried to install Flash-FR ... It crashed my P3 to the point that it appeared to be bricked with no power or anything. I spoke with someone who would know what to do, and was told there would always at least be the button lights, but nope, nothing. After losing my mind and completely freaking out for a good hour or so, I noticed that the LAN light was functional (only after plugging in a LAN cable while in search of any sign of life) which meant that power had to be coming across the system from somewhere, so I decided to go ahead and start the Flash-FR program from scratch with a RS232~USB adapter that I just bought... No dice, because the adapter wouldn't work with Win-7. Back to town to buy another one, the Dynax adapter that someone mentioned worked when the Belkin wouldn't, and it too wouldn't work with Win-7.

By now I was about to eat a bullet, because of the 5 computers I have in my home, all but 1 of them is Win-7 and it's a barely functional Acer all-in-one XP machine. I tried it, and the Flash took perfectly... All of a sudden I had lights, backlights, indicator lights, everything. The display then came on to report that the new firmware was successful and so I tore everything back down, took it back to my fishroom to re-connect, and everything is again 100% functional.

With all of the drama that I went through for the better part of the day today, I guess the moral here is that when all else fails, slow down and take a deep breath, and try again even though you're convinced it's dead, because in my case it wasn't, and I'm back online as if nothing ever happened. BTW, an RS232 port is on my short list for my newest desktop! :crazy1:

I still can't figure out how in the hell to get the Webserver functioning though, so if someone could be kind enough to provide me with step-by-step instructions, I would be so very greatful. :o

Hi Tim,

Great news! As I said on the phone a firmware update will never kill a ProfiLux, however if you get a signal drop out when upgrading then you can get a firmware crash and this is where the Fujitsu tool comes in. Dont worry you are not the first and this is why the tool is available.

Most webserver tech support is answered on the other side ;) www.aquariumcomputer.com/forum but if you want to post here what questions you have here we will try and help

Sadly, my P3 does this for every update over USB. I always end up with the "dead" P3 then have to use my rs232-usb adaptor... It just stinks because I hate having to completly remove the P3 from my tank while doing an update, and then have the alarm screeming at me the whole time. lol
