Bad News

im am goin to be an EMT in few years, i am majoring in firescience and will be emplyed with the granite fire department on my 21st birthday. just take a look at city jobs.

Im glad you cleared that up DrBDC, I was gonna say that an ENT works and does surgery just as frequently as any other specialist

anyways...what about dentistry, optometry, chiropractic, veterinary?

as I learned in college, you can't just pick something your freshman year and go with it....dont be too embarassed to major in general or university studies....DO believe everyone that tells you to just take generals for the first few years until you decide....

my list of majors went (in this order)
landscape architecture>architecture>mathematics>mechanical engineering>biology education>biological sciences

since I changed majors so much and they are unrelated it ended up taking me 5 years to complete a simple biology degree...this cost about 10,000 extra dollars and an entire year

to reiterate: YOU DONT NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOUR CAREER IS GOING TO BE IN HIGH SCHOOL OR EVEN YOUR SOPH YEAR OF COLLEGE for that matter

You maybe don't need to know, but don't you think it would be a nice thing to have an idea? I mean, going to college is expensive enough as it is, why eat up tons more money and time of your life flitting from major to major? Then you just have that much more debt afterwards to pay back. I have a stepson who is going into his junior year of high school and I will be encouraging him to spend alot of time researching career choices and schools who offer programs in what he's interested in. Based on my own experience I will be encouraging him to not only concentrate on how much money he could make in a given career, but how happy he thinks he would be doing it. It will be important for him to narrow his focus as the only way he's going to be able to go is to get a scholarship in a chosen field, and possibly student loans. As someone who flitted around (I have 2 associates degrees and several years of college in other fields of study), I know I would have been much happier if I had chosen something I felt I would be happy with and pursued it in a more concentrated manner vs what I ended up doing which is settling for something after wandering around for awhile, that simply sustains me and pays some bills. I have a feeling he's probably going to pursue an engineering degree and hopes that he can get into the U of Illinois on a scholarship.
