I thought that I was keeping my Ca level in the 420-430 range, at least that is what my Salifert Ca test kit had been showing. I bought a Salifert Strontium test kit to monitor that as well. The first steps of that kit measure Ca. The Strontium test kit, was showing Ca to be at 360. I thought that was unusually low compared to what my Salifert Ca test kit had been showing. So I decided to mail a sample to Aquarium Water Testing for further analysis. From that same sample that I mailed, the Strontium test kit showed Ca at 360. The Salifert Ca test kit showed Ca at 430. The Aquarium Water Test results are shown below--
Water Test Summary
Ammonia (NH3-4) 0.001 Good
Nitrite (NO2) 0.004 Good
Nitrate (NO3) 0.4 Good
Phosphate (PO4) 0.06 Good
Silica (SiO2-3) 1.8 High
Potassium (K) 348 Low
Calcium (Ca) 367 Good
Boron (B) 3.0 Good
Molybdenum (Mo) 0.1 Good
Strontium (Sr) 10.1 Good
Magnesium (Mg) 1346 Good
Iodine (I¯) 0.02 Low
Copper (Cu++) 0.02 Good
Alkalinity (meq/L) 3.04 Good
Has anyone else received inaccurate results from the Salifert Ca test kit? I stopped using the Salifert Alk test some time ago because of the quality issues. Now, I'm concerned about the Salifert Ca test as well.
