What do people do when you get a bad box of salt? I switched to reef crystals at the begining of the yr and have noticed that the last box I have the parms are way out of whack. I reset the tank to get parms back in order and was stable for a mo and have done 2x 10 gal water changes in the last 3 weeks and mag has gone up 300, haven't dosed any, and alk has gone up 1 dkh ca went up 30. I seen a thread on rc that a few people are complaining of algea problems they think are because of the salt, one said he just switched and started getting algea in tank. Not sure if this is a bad batch of salt or maybe time to look for a more stable salt with lower alk and mag.

I generally do not believe that green algae problems can ever be blamed on salt. 
While salt mixes likely vary batch to batch, and certainly can be inhomogeneous within a bag or bucket, test kits and salinity measurement by hobbyists are more likely to be causes of "bad batches" than are true bad batches. The latter can happen, but I suspect from name brand companies they are relatively uncommon.

Those differences seem pretty small and insignificant to me. My alk can change more than that if I forget to dose a day. I agree with Randy about the test kits. I use RC and have never had algae grow because of it.
