Motion sensors are not obsolete unless you have a HUGE dog. Our systems come stock with 40lb. pet immunity sensors, and those can be upgraded to 80 or 100 lb. immunity. Don't worry about the motions...we have ways!
I have two Aussies--one is 65#, the other 40#

That's a real interesting topic - motion sensor immunity. If a man got down on the ground and crawled like a dog - would it fool it? How does it gauge weight? What about a 70lb dog and a 55lb dog tearing down the hallway together, wrestling chest to chest or bursting in through the dog door in one fluid motion? I am not trying to argue, I really am fascinated by the idea and curious to know how it works!

Two dogs side by side could potentially set it off. A man crawling on the ground should set it off, but I have never heard of a criminal willing to try and trick a motion detector, all motion detectors look the exact same so you can't tell it is for a large dog or if it's a regular one. If someone has two dogs weighing a total of 100+ lbs. I would either steer clear of motion detectors, or put them in an area where the dogs can not access (ie. master bedroom). The other option is to mount the motion detector down lower on the wall and flip it upside down so it shines up across the room rather than down, this option works well in small rooms, or hallways.
